The experts at 1st Move International Removals have shared their insights on the growing issue of hand luggage and how to ensure you’re packing everything you need. They’ve offered some crucial advice to help you pack all your winter travel necessities without having to shell out for extra baggage allowance.
One of these tips involves strategically layering everything in your bag using a clever technique known as the ‘Tetris method’ to maximise space.
To do this, start by placing heavier items like shoes and toiletry bags at the bottom, followed by upright, neatly folded clothes.
Managing director Mike Harvey suggests using gaps to neatly fit smaller items like scarves. This Tetris-like strategy ensures efficient use of space and evenly distributes weight to avoid creases.
Another space-saving tip is the KonMari folding technique, popularised by organisation guru Marie Kondo on her hit Netflix series. This method involves folding garments into compact rectangles that can stand upright in your luggage, particularly beneficial for bulky jumpers and layered clothing.
To fold a jumper, bring one side towards the middle, fold the sleeve in, and repeat on the other side to form a neat rectangle. Then fold it in half or thirds and position it upright. This approach not only saves space but also keeps items within easy reach and prevents your suitcase from becoming disorganised.
