If you are looking for a warm, quick meal with no prep but also fit your health goals, this could be the one
If you have been making some changes to your diet this January in a bid to cut calories it can be a minefield navigating meals and the supermarket. Making meals from scratch is an easy way to keep an eye on what is going into your food, but sometimes you just don’t have the time or energy to cook a meal that fits your health goals.
So, if you are looking to drop a few pounds in 2025, Slimming World’s frozen range in Iceland might be a quick fix for those nights you are out of inspiration. I tried some of the newest meals to be added to the Slimming World range and found one, in particular, you would not know was a slimming dinner.
I tried six of the new meals, and it was the most expensive one that came out on top. For me, the Slimming World King Prawn Bhuna – 500g, £4.75 – was delicious.
The bhuna had a really nice depth of flavour. I could taste fragrant lemongrass, but not overpowering alongside a great mix of spices. There was a generous amount of prawns, which were well-seasoned and there was a nice heat to the curry, great for warming up on a cold night – although my husband disagreed and said it was spiced but no heat.
I halved a packet of microwave rice to have two portions, even so there was plenty of sauce. There were really big slices of red onion; these needed cutting down a little to elevate it further. Amazing for a slimming meal. 8/10
Slimming World Seasoned Potato Wedges – 800g, £3.25
Nice quick alternative if you are following SW or diet. But they are quite dry. This makes them seem crisp, but they are more aerated when you bite in. While the seasoning, which you have to add yourself, the dryness was quite dominating, so I did have them with M&S coleslaw – not SW friendly, but you could syn it. 5/10
Slimming World Sweet & Sour Chicken Noodles – 400g, £3.75
Unfortunately, these were not good. There were very few noodles in the tub and the sauce was both watery and gloopy. It was neither sweet nor sour, and I missed that wonderful tang you get from a delicious classic dish like this.
The chicken was also unseasoned and chewy, making the whole thing really unpalatable. 1/10
Slimming World Chicken Tikka & Rice – 400g, £3.75
It had a nice spice, but not as spicy as I prepared myself for. There were five big pieces of chicken in it, which for the size of the tub is decent. The rice had a nice texture, and the grains and chickpeas were really nice additions.
I could have had more cauliflower, however and I did think the sauce was a little watery. 6/10
Slimming World Chicken Casserole – 500g, £4.25
This felt like there was something missing. And arguably, there were; potatoes. In my casseroles, there are always potatoes, and I think this needs a few spuds to help carry the flavour of the sauce.
However, the sauce also needs a bit more depth; it had a sweetness that wasn’t balanced out by the deep, salty, savoury flavours you expect in a casserole. The dark sauce looked promising but ultimately disappointed.
The chicken was a little bland and chewy., but the carrots and mushrooms were nice. 4/10
Slimming World Brazilian Black Bean Rice Lunch Bowl – 400g, £3.75
There was a nice sweetness to the sauce, but it may be too sweet for some. It was packed with veg and beans, but it felt filling and hearty rather than a slimming lunch.
And I think you get a good amount in all of them and I think there are some impressive flavours for a frozen, slimming product. 6/10
Slimming World Chorizo-Style Sausages & Orzo – 400g, £3.75
This was a bit of a mixed experience as the orzo had a lovely texture with a little bite to it and the red pepper sauce was nice with rich sweetness. But the four small chorizo sausages were odd. They looked lighter than the chorizo I normally eat, and they had a very chewy texture; I imagine this may be because they are a low-calorie version.
They had a mild heat, but that is all I could taste, otherwise they were flavourless, which considering they should have been the highlight of the dish it was disappointing. 5/10
You can get the full range from Iceland online and in-store, and if you love one of the meals so much, the recipe to make your own is on the packaging.
