There’s a new rival to Amazon’s range of Fire TVs and it’s offering an upgrade that includes free access to premium content.
Amazon’s range of Fire TV screens continue to be hugely popular thanks to their price, smart features and easy access to endless hours of content. However, these connected tellies now have another new rival that even includes some premium shows, boxsets and movies for free.
The latest QLED CHiQ screens from the team at Roku have just gone on sale and those buying one will currently get a whole three months of Apple TV+ without paying a penny. That means owners can tune into award-winning shows such as Ted Lasso, Slow Horses, Slio and Severance without reaching for their credit cards.
Although Fire TVs offer full Apple TV+ compatibility, Amazon isn’t currently offering any free access right now.

Along with content without paying, the new Roku screens also feature pin-sharp QLED displays and support for stunning HDR10 picture quality.
Roku is even boasting that they feature a metal frameless design to help them blend in better with your living room.
They are also powered by Roku’s operating system and come pre-loaded with apps such as Disney+, Prime Video, Netflix, Paramount+ BBC iPlayer, ITVX and the popular Roku channel.
Other extras include a customisable home screen and powerful universal search function that shows what’s available to view across numerous platforms. They are also compatible with Alexa, Google Assistant, and Apple Home for easy voice control.
They come in two sizes including a 43-inch screen which costs £249.99 and a bigger 50-inch display for £299.99.

“The Roku OS is designed to make it easier, faster, and more affordable for consumers to watch what they love,” said Richard Halton, Country Manager at Roku UK. “We are pleased to build on our partnership with CHiQ to launch Roku’s next QLED TV model in the UK. This new series combines CHiQ’s high-end TVs with Roku’s smart yet simple streaming platform to create the perfect home entertainment experience at a great price point.”
It’s a nice update from Roku but Amazon is going down without a fight. The online retailer recently refreshed its Fire TVs with the launch of a new flagship range.
The Fire TV Omni Mini-LED Series – which comes in 55-, 65- and 75-inch versions – now use what’s known as QLED mini-LED displays that offer better contrast, brightness and picture quality compared to cheaper, regular LED TVs.
This tech “optimises picture quality, audio, and performance to deliver the most powerful and innovative Amazon-built TV yet”, according to Amazon.
They also get clever AI “Intelligent Picture technology” which always makes sure the image is looking its best.
