Festival goers celebrating the German city of Solingen’s 650th anniversary have been killed and injured after a knife attack with emergency services fighting to save the wounded
An attack on a festival in the German city of Solingen has left festival goers dead and wounded, with the exact number of fatalities and injured not yet clear, police have said.
The attack took place in the city of Solingen in western Germany, with police saying the weapon used in the attacks is presumed to be a knife. Police are said to have declared a major alarm with a police helicopter reported to be circling above a cordoned-off area in the city.
Authorities have told people to leave the downtown area of Solingen, with Solinger Tagblatt reporting that one of the festival organisers said on stage that emergency workers were fighting for the lives of nine people.
