Vera Bell, 100, who is a resident at Care UK’s Manor Lodge in Chelmsford, has enjoyed a remarkable life – and now she has shared a cheeky secret to a long life
A sprightly centurian has just turned the grand age of 100 and she’s shared her surprising secret to a long and happy life.
Vera Bell, who lives at Care UK’s Manor Lodge in Chelmsford, celebrated her big day with a bang, surrounded by loved ones and a birthday cake whipped up by the home’s head chef. Reflecting on a life full of adventures and service, Vera disclosed her unique longevity tip: “I’ve always enjoyed helping others, keeping my sense of humour, and of course, the occasional ginger wine!”
Vera’s roots trace back to Kent, but love led her to Chelmsford in 1987 after marrying her beau Ray in 1948, to be closer to their daughter Susan and grandkids Joanne and Sally.
A dedicated Salvation Army member and a volunteer with the Women’s Royal Voluntary Service (WRVS) for 25 years, Vera’s life has been defined by her unwavering commitment to helping others, earning her a long service medal for her efforts.
Vera, a dedicated volunteer with a flair for creativity, loves to knit for charities and create handmade gifts for her family and friends. She even passed her driving test at 74, showing that age is just a number when it comes to new achievements.
Maggie Ziemianska, Home Manager at Manor Lodge, shared: “Vera’s 100th birthday was a true celebration of her remarkable life.
“She is such a cherished member of the Manor Lodge community, and it was wonderful to see her surrounded by family and friends as we celebrated this special day. Her sense of humour and positive outlook have always been an inspiration to everyone here.”, reports Essex Live.
