Strictly Come Dancing viewers have been venting on social media about Wynne Evans and Katya Jones, with some accusing the judges of ‘favouritism’ and ‘overmarking’
Strictly’s Wynne Evans’ girlfriend has posted in support of her partner’s performance while fans are left fuming over him being “overmarked” by the judges.
The Welsh opera singer performed an American smooth with his professional partner Katya Jones, with the former Go Compare advert star taking on his first taste of the foxtrot this series. The American smooth ballroom dance includes four different styles – Foxtrot, Tango, Waltz, and Viennese Waltz, with pro Katya choreographing the routine to Mika’s Grace Kelly.
Wynne’s girlfriend, Liz Brookes, 50, posted enthusiastically on Instagram, bigging up her man, who she has been with since the start of the year. The fitness enthusiast shared a photo of the pair together, writing: “Knocks it out of the park again!”
The judges loved the performance, with Anton Du Beke scoring the couple an impressive 9 out of ten. Shirley branded their dance “wonderful”, while Anton said it was “technically great, joie de vivre and energy, powerful lifts, smooth like it says on the tin”.
But viewers at home were left furious with the judges for scoring the pair so highly, with one accusing them of “favouritism” towards 52-year-old Wynne. Taking to X to share their opinions, fans didn’t hold back.
One wrote: “Wynne has never scored under 30 from the judges,” while another agreed: “Yeah it’s a mystery to us all, I feel like I’m being gaslit into thinking this chump is actually a good dancer. I’ll be P***ED if he gets to Blackpool week.” A third disgruntled viewer added: “I swear to God! If Wynne dances s*** and they drool.. Be afraid Twitter. Be very afraid!” Someone else laid into the judges: “So Wynne has no criticism from Shirley but Sarah does? Why does Shirley do this every year? Always has to nitpick on a woman.”
One fan thought the scoring was true to form, typing: “The overscoring and favouritism for Wynne continues,” with another jibing: “One of the most irritating songs of all time for the equally irritating Wynne.” One social media user was bemused, penning: “Why are they always slathering over Wynne?! I don’t get it.”
A clip shown on the show saw Wynne and Katya rehearsing, with Wynne telling her she was “so mean”. When Wynne told the cameras he was entering this weekend with a “spring in his step”, Katya quipped: “And a bounce in his hair.” The pair burst out laughing, with Wynne hugging his partner as he said “So mean, so mean.”
As the results show is filmed straight after the live show on Saturday nights, but aired on Sunday, some viewers already know who will leave – but the Mirror has chosen not to publish the spoiler. Sadly, one celebrity and their pro partner failed to impress the judges and were kicked out of the competition, narrowly missing out on Blackpool Week, leaving fans frustrated.
