Items that have caused particular concern are the potentially-dangerous bacteria Listeria, which is thought to have been found in meat products at Tesco, including its 10 Cooked Beef Slices

There has been a major recall of Christmas dinner favourites ahead of December 25.

It’s thought that the items, which could contain potentially dangerous bacteria like Listeria, were shockingly out of their use by date by an entire month.

Supermarkets, including Tesco, Aldi, Morrisons, and Dunnes say that one product is a particular risk and has had to be recalled on a number of occasions.

Tesco

One favourite is thought to “pose a risk to health” and should never have been sold after the incorrect use by date was printed on packs. The dates missed the mark by an entire 18 days, which made buyers think it could be consumed for two-and-a-half more weeks.

The batch reference Code for December 29 had an incorrect use by date of 29 DEC. It should have said December 11. Thrifty shoppers might’ve assumed incorrectly that they could have bought the red cabbage early and saved it for the big day.

Beef slice products were also given an incorrect use by date of January 25. This should’ve been December 24, a whole month before.

Tesco has urged customers “please don’t eat it” and have been told they can receive a full refund.

Recalled prodcuts:

Cooked beef slices – 125g (January 24 “use by” date)

Red Cabbage & Apple – 300g (batch reference is Code 29 Dec)

Dunnes

Dunnes has been forced to recall several cheeses in Ireland after finding a potentially dangerous bacteria which can cause vomiting and diarrhea. Nine products, all dairy-based, have been recalled.

According to the Food Standards Authority, there was a “possible presence of Listeria monocytogenes”, adding: “Symptoms caused by this organism can be similar to flu and include high temperature, muscle ache or pain, chills, feeling or being sick and diarrhoea.

“However, in rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications, such as meningitis.

“Some people are more vulnerable to listeria infections, including those over 65 years of age, pregnant women and their unborn babies, babies less than one month old and people with weakened immune systems.

“If you have bought the above products do not eat them. Instead, return them to the store from where they were bought for a full refund.”

Many may have bought the products early thinking about the festivities on December 25, including Irish Brie Cheese and Cranberry Quiche.

Morrisons shoppers will need to watch out if they recently bought crushed garlic from the supermarket. It’s believed that an ingredient was missed off the product which prevents microbiological growth.

A spokesman for the company said: “Please do not eat this product and return it to your nearest store for a full refund. We don’t need a receipt.

“No other products or date codes are affected by this issue. We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause and assure customers of our continuing commitment to the highest standard of product quality and safety.”

Aldi

The Let’s Party Vegetable Bao Buns, which are available at the supermarket, have been recalled as there are several risks it poses with people who suffer from sesame and duck allergies. The two allergens have been missed off the label.

A spokesman said the customers can return the item for a full refund. They said: “We apologise that this product did not meet our normal high standards and thank you for your co-operation.”
