Hundreds of people called emergency services tonight after a massive fire ignited on a hill in Wales, coughing smoke into the atmosphere visible for miles around.
Three fire crews rushed to contain the mountain fire in Swansea, Wales tonight after more than 120 placed calls, seeing bright orange flame in the city. Dramatic photos show the top of a hill completely engulfed in flame following reports that the blaze is making it difficult for first responders to attend the scene.
South Wales Fire and Rescue Service confirmed firefighters arrived at around 8pm after receiving calls from the public. Andrew Webber, in Llansamlet, said: “I’d just got to my parents to drop them home and could see the sky lighting up orange and then saw the flames.”

“Me and my dad walked down the road a few yards and saw the view I had in the video and photos.” He added: “We could see emergency vehicles making their way up so I’m assuming it’s not a controlled fire.” The fire erupted at Mynydd Gelliwastad in the Clydach area, prompting calls from more than 100 concerned locals.
Another resident, Mark Lane explained: “The fire is massive, with flames reaching an estimated 40-plus feet in height. It’s spreading rapidly in both directions, making it a challenging situation for the fire brigade to manage, especially given its location at the top of a hill. The difficult terrain is complicating access for emergency services, and the scale of the blaze is concerning.”
