The teacher has been subject to multiple racist death threats since December 2023 that has since led to a police investigation in a bid to uncover the culprit behind them
A teacher is living in fear after being subjected to multiple death threat letters – one of which warned she would have her throat slit “like a pig”.
The high school teacher in Libourne, near Bordeaux, France, was first sent a death threat on December 4 last year before another came to her on September 10 this year. A third letter was slipped under the door of her classroom this month that included the teacher’s name and was followed by the words “to death”.
It was reportedly less explicit than the first letter that threatened to “slit her throat like a pig”. The third letter has since been added to the investigation that is being carried out by the Libourne prosecutor’s office.
The investigation will look into “death threats against a person responsible for a public service mission, committed on the grounds of race, ethnicity, nation or religion,” according to Le Figaro.
A press release from the Libourne public prosecutor obtained by Le Journal Du Manche said: “Following a letter found Tuesday morning in a classroom at the Jean Monnet high school in Libourne targeting a teacher at the establishment, an investigation has been opened into the charges of death threats against a person responsible for a public service mission, committed on the grounds of race, ethnicity, nation or religion.”
No suspects have been arrested over the multiple letters that have targeted the same teacher since last year. Police patrols have been set up around the school and have been “reinforced”.
The Bordeaux education office condemned the threats. A spokesperson said: “The situation is being taken very seriously and is being monitored very closely.”
