Tesco shoppers have taken to social media to complain about problems checking out online shopping and with accessing their Clubcards through the supermarket app

Tesco customers are not able to access the retailer’s app and website with a huge number of people reporting an outage.

Many shoppers have taken to social media to complain about problems checking-out online shopping and with accessing their Clubcards through Tesco’s app. Tesco’s account on X replied to one user saying it is having, external “intermittent system issues at the moment which the IT team are currently working hard to resolve.”

More than 1,500 people have reported problems on DownDetector with the problems beginning for most around mid afternoon. There was also a spike in reports of an outage at midday with 677 people saying that they had difficulties. The website said that 57% of reports were about the app, 25% login and 18% were regarding the internet.

Many people have commented about the problem online and enquiring what is the reason for it. One person wrote: “Anyone else unable to log in to Tesco?” and another said: “Tesco online groceries and the app both not working.”

Customers on social media have listed multiple problems. One reports issues with Apple Pay in a Tesco store as well as difficulties with gift cards. A heat map showing the outages indicates that most problems have been in London and Manchester as well as Norwich.

It is not clear if the problems being experienced by Tesco are related to a hack or are the result of a technical fault. DownDetector showed increasing levels of reported problems but they have started to subside after 4pm.”

There was also another Tesco outage two months ago, shown on DownDetector, where a shopper commented online over that incident that they had received a message from Tesco saying that the problem was at their end. She wrote: “Anyone else having problems with either slow or zero loading pages to update orders for tomorrow, or any time? Frustrating even when logging in to the site, receive the message “It’s not you, it’s us” – Not helpful, Tesco!”

While a further person, responding to a comment that they couldn’t find a delivery time, said that her screen keeps flashing. “Am able to book my delivery, put couple of items in & the screen/page keeps flashing,” she said. “As the previous large outage was only the 19 Th February, this is worrying & they are not putting out information to customers. This is just not good enough.”

Meanwhile earlier today Halifax was hit by an outage that took down mobile banking and online banking, leaving people unable to access money. According to DownDetector, the bank’s problems started at around 11am and have affected more than 1,000 users.

In an official statement, a Halifax spokesperson said: “Our app and online banking are up and running. We know it took customers a bit longer than usual to get logged on for a short time this morning, with customers able to do so after waiting a few extra moments, or giving it another try.” The Mirror has contacted Tesco for comment.
