Tesco Finest range of dried pasta now comes in paper packaging, saving more than 10 million pieces of plastic a year, weighing more than 30 tonnes

Tesco has made a big change to some of its pasta products.

The supermarket’s Finest range of dried pasta now comes in paper packaging, saving more than 10 million pieces of plastic a year, weighing more than 30 tonnes. Tesco has moved ten lines into the new packaging, which will be available in both larger stores and Tesco Express convenience stores. The new packs are 100% recyclable and can be put into household recycling bins.

Claire Lorains, Tesco Group Sustainability and Quality Director, said: “Removing unnecessary plastic is an important way that Tesco can reduce its environmental impact. The new paper packaging works just as well as the old plastic but can be popped into your normal recycling bin with other paper. We’re proud of the work we’ve done so far to reduce the plastic we use at Tesco but will continue to look for ways to do more.”

Tesco has removed more than 2.3 billion pieces of plastic from its stores since 2019. Earlier this year, Tesco became the first supermarket to scrap plastic packaging for its own brand pocket tissue multi-packs, saving more than 55 million pieces of soft plastic. The supermarket also launched a new range of luxury soft toilet rolls and kitchen towels made from cardboard recycled from home delivery boxes, cardboard tubes from toilet rolls, and corrugated card waste. Tesco has more than 4,000 UK stores.

It comes as an important Tesco deadline was issued for shoppers. In just over two weeks, more than £18million worth of Clubcard vouchers will no longer be valid. Tesco Clubcard vouchers are valid for two years, so these were first issued in November 2022. The vouchers will no longer be valid to use after midnight on November 30. The supermarket has emailed customers with reminders to use their vouchers before they expire.

Clubcard vouchers can be used towards your Tesco shop, or you can double their value by using them with a Clubcard Reward Partner. Some of the brands Tesco has partnered with include Pizza Express, Alton Towers and Hotels.com. Tesco shoppers get one Clubcard point for every £1 spent on groceries in stores and online, or one point for every two litres of fuel you buy at a Tesco petrol station. Additionally, every £1 spent on Tesco Mobile is worth one point, while every £4 spent on a Tesco credit card is also worth one point.

You’ll also get one point for every £1 spent using a Tesco Clubcard Pay+ debit card. You need a minimum of 150 points to get a Clubcard voucher, which will be worth £1.50 to spend in Tesco.
