Strictly Come Dancing host Tess Daly took to social media to show herself and husband Vernon Kay looking unrecognisable as they seemingly took ‘style tips’ from the 1980s
Tess Daly has been swamped with love from fans after she posted that she and hubby Vernon Kay had thrown it back to the ’80s for a pal’s birthday bash, looking absolutely smashing in the process. The TV star hit up her social media to drop a pic of the duo getting their groove on over the weekend.
In the snap, Tess lashes a big smile at the camera, rocking a shiny dress with a square neckline and puffed sleeves, and her signature blonde hair styled in a side plait. Meanwhile Vernon stands by her side, sporting a zipped-up sports jacket and a trendy bucket hat.
Sharing the moment with her 867,000 followers, the Strictly Come Dancing favourite wrote: “Back to the 80’s for a friend’s birthday celebration this weekend.” She playfully added: “Retiring the side braid and bucket hat now @vernonkay.”

Ahead of the grand return of Strictly Come Dancing to BBC One and iPlayer later this year, Tess Daly confirmed she’ll be back to continue her hosting duties alongside Claudia Winkleman, the Manchester Evening News reported. The pair will help mark 20 years of Strictly’s dazzling entertainment.
Talk of who will fill the judges’ desks can be put to rest, as once again Shirley Ballas, Motsi Mabuse, Craig Revel-Horwood and Anton Du Beke will be holding court. The list of professional dancers they will be critiquing has been divulged too – but plans to keep their celebrity partners a secret for now are still in motion.
The dance floor will glisten with the familiar talents of Dianne Buswell, Nadiya Bychkova, Graziano Di Prima, Karen Hauer, Amy Dowden, Katya Jones, Neil Jones, Nikita Kuzmin, Gorka Marquez, Luba Mushtuk, Jowita Przystal, Johannes Radebe, Kai Widdrington, Nancy Xu, Carlos Gu, Lauren Oakley, Michelle Tsiakkas and Vito Coppola.
One notable absence from the line-up is Giovanni Pernice. Having joined the show back in 2015 and danced his way to the final with Coronation Street’s Georgia May Foote before lifting the glitterball trophy with EastEnders ‘ Rose Ayling-Ellis in 2021 who became the show’s first deaf winner.
His most recent partner was Sherlock actress Amanda Abbington, who had to withdraw unexpectedly from the 2023 competition due to “personal reasons”. However, there have since been several allegations of troubling behaviour by Giovanni within the training premises.
Giovanni has previously dismissed claims of “abusive or threatening behaviour”, stating that he is looking “forward to clearing my name”. A legal firm representing the complainants mentioned that the broadcaster is currently “evidence gathering”, although the BBC has not officially confirmed the start of any investigation.
Sarah James, the executive producer, expressed: “This year Strictly marks two decades of entertaining the nation and we will be back with a bang in September as we celebrate in style with our incredible team both on and off screen.”
