The city og Poznan has been recommended by a regular traveller on her social media feed with the location and cost of the historic destination seriously impressing her

A city in the EU which is far cheaper than its more famous neighbour has been lauded by a travel guide on social media.

Poznan ticks all the boxes for budget travellers and has been recommended by a reviewer on her TikTok feed. She recommends three city break locations and the second one in her video was the historic European city which really impressed her.

Its more famous Polish neighbour is Krakow which maybe better known and is around 280 miles away. But the traveller was impressed by the affordability of the medieval town. She said: “My next recommendation has a beautiful Old Town.

“The food is also delicious and really affordable. There’s loads to do on a budget like the Palm House or this amazing spa – which is also the largest in the country and cost just £16 for a three hour pass.”

Tik Tok user @emsbudgettravel continued to sing its praises and said it was better and cheaper than other city break destinations in the country. And for those on a budget, she also said it was inexpensive.

She added: “The city is Poznan in Poland. I thought this was such a underrated Polish city, just as good as some of the more popular city breaks like Krakow or Gdansk. But I actually found it to be a little bit cheaper.”

Many people reponded to her thoughts on the city. One poster said: “Absolutely agree with all choices, Poznań is beautiful now the city centre is finished its reconstruction programme!

On TripAdvisor the location was also championed by others who had been there. One person wrote: “Went recently. Not a massive town, but lovely old town square area. Enjoyed the Imperial Palace and surrounding area. Cathedral Island was nice and pop into the cathedral. Croissant museum is OK and quite entertaining.”

Another reviewer said: “I recently spent 5 nights there and enjoyed it very much. It’s a relaxed laid back town, plenty of restaurants, cafes etc, and lots of green spaces. The National Museum is worth a visit.”

A further poster wrote: “They have some interesting history museums if you care about rights, two uprising museums one at Stary Rynak another on Poznan uprising 1956 isn’t a far walk. See visitpoznan.pl for good ideas.”

In May Poland’s capital Warsaw was named the best European city for a budget break. On the banks of the Vistula River, the destination is steeped in history and is one that is fantastic for a bargain weekend away.

Known as the Phoenix City, it’s a metropolis known for having risen from the ashes of WW2. Visitors can expect beautiful, old architecture at every turn, but with plenty of modern additions that are now a part of the city’s cultural tapestry. According to experts from travel insurance firm Quotezone, it’s also the best budget-friendly city break destination in Europe.

Experts looked at the twelve most visited capital cities across Europe including Paris, Berlin, Madrid and Rome, and analysed the cost of tourist tax, hotels, dining and drinking and public transport. Warsaw came out on top, with the researchers highlighting that there is no tourist tax in place for visitors.
