The popular BaByliss Air Wand has just launched a number of new attachments, aiming to make styling your hair easier than ever; our beauty editor puts one of them to the test

I’ve tried dozens – in fact, probably hundreds – of the best hair styling tools over the years, but the BaByliss Air Wand particularly impressed me when it first launched last year; I was particularly impressed by its power and ease of use. Originally featuring volumising and straightening brush heads as well as operating as a hair dryer, now BaByliss has just introduced four new attachments to give even more stylish options.

Shoppers can now by a smoothing brush, a diffuser, a pik and a flyaway tamer to click on to the original wand, priced at £25 each. The diffuser and pik aren’t right for my hair type, but I was keen to see if the smoothing brush head could turn my straggly strands into sleek styles, especially as shoppers are already calling it their ‘favourite attachment’. Here’s how I got on…

Like all the other heads, this new smoothing brush clicks easily onto the wand, and you can then pass it over and through damp hair to dry and style at once. The Air Wand has three speed and three heat settings plus a cool function; I personally find styling easiest using high heat and low speed.

The brush passes easily through my hair with no pulling and snagging, and one thing I liked most about it is that the bristles don’t get too hot, meaning that you can use your hand to guide it throughout your hair or ‘push’ more volume into the roots. It’s also easy to use it to switch up your parting or add shape around the face.

It left my hair looking groomed and tamed yet still with some natural movement to it, and eliminated any flyaways. Perhaps what impressed me most though was just how quickly it smoothed my hair – in took literally seconds, and was much quicker than using straighteners (although the result wasn’t as poker-straight).

Of course, you need to already own the Air Wand, which costs £120, to use this new attachment, or if you don’t, you can buy the full set with this new brush head for £140, saving you £5.

As an alternative, the ghd Glide Hot Brush, £179, is a popular choice, and with a smaller handle and traditional ‘brush’ shape, some may find it slightly easier to control.

And for a bargain option, the Revlon One Step Hair Dryer and Styler is now reduced from £49.99 to £23.55 on Amazon.
