Creating a good bed time routine is the secret to getting a good night’s sleep, and this heated eye massager is the perfect way to relax and unwind at the end of the day

When it comes to getting a good night’s sleep, creating a calming routine before bed can help signal to your body that you’re about to get some rest. It can also help de-stress and calm your mind before you get into bed, helping you switch off and fall asleep much quicker.

This year I’ve decided to make some positive changes to my routine in order to improve my sleep quality, and one gadget that’s been helping me do that is the Bob and Brad EyeOasis 2 , £59.99. Usually bringing technology to bed with you is considered a bad idea, but for this, I’ll make an exception.

The Bob and Brad EyeOasis 2 is like having your very own spa treatment at home. If you’ve ever had a facial or a head massage and felt like you were fighting to stay away, this replicated that feeling almost perfectly.

It straps around your eyes, and once turned on the air pressure in the eye pads slowly fills up and releases in a pattern that mimics a massage. The massager doesn’t apply pressure directly to your eyeballs, so don’t worry if you’re squeamish.

Instead it moves around your eyebrows, under your eyes and down the bridge of your nose, as well as applying pressure to your temples, all in a gentle sweeping motion. The massage helps mimic the type you would get during a facial, which is not only relaxing but can also help with de-puffing your skin and lymphatic drainage. I found it was also a joy at helping ease tension headaches, especially those that sit behind your eyes or in your temples.

As well as massage, the area slowly warms up to add a gentle heat to the experience, which reminded me of when you’re at a spa and the therapist lays a warm towel over your eyes to relax them. The Bob and Brad EyeOasis 2 also acts as a blackout mask, making it a treat for migraine sufferers.

If that wasn’t enough, it even plays music. It comes with its own built-in music, but you can also connect it to your phone’s bluetooth and pick the sounds of your choice – I tried it with everything from spa music to my audiobook, and it was a great immersive feeling that helped me properly shut off from the world around me.

There are five different modes to choose from which offer a different combination of the massage, heat and music, and you can pick between four different massage intensities. The Bob and Brad EyeOasis 2 also folds up neatly into a handy carry case, so you can use it while travelling too.

I honestly couldn’t fault the Bob and Brad EyeOasis 2. It remains to be seen whether it has any long-term benefits on the appearance of my under eye area, but even if I use it purely for some end of the day relaxation, it’s a winner in my book.

If you want something a little more techy, the Therabody SmartGoggles , £99 (was £175), work in a similar function to the Bob and Brad EyeOasis 2, but use exclusive SmartSense Technology. This means the device uses your body’s own biometric data to calm your body and mind with a combination of vibration, massage and heat.

For those who want more of a skincare-based treatment, the StylPro Bags Be Gone Heated Eye Massager, £24.99, is a great alternative. The pen-like tool combines LED red light therapy with gentle massage to even out your skin tone and reduce puffiness, with a heat feature that helps firm up and brighten your skin.

For me though, the Bob and Brad EyeOasis 2 is everything I need to help me unwind before bed. Just don’t disturb me while I’m using it.
