Fuming Three UK customers have threatened to ditch the network as they find themselves more than six hours into a huge outage which has seen some miss doctor’s appointments and importance phone calls.

With thousands still in the dark on when the issue might be fixed, many have taken to social media to slam the “useless” service, with their days thrown into chaos after the system suddenly shut down at 7:45am this morning. Of those impacted, the majority, (80%) can’t make or receive voice calls, 17% can’t get phone signal and 3% are having trouble connecting to the internet, according to Downdetector. Almost 10,000 people have reported issues with the network today – many of whom have reported missing important calls and appointments since the outage began.

One customer claims they missed a scheduled doctors appointment as a result of the ongoing network issues. The customer said: “This is crazy with Three just missed an online doctor’s appointment. Rubbish network.” A second, waiting for a call from their doctor, threatened to leave Three UK. The user said: “Been down all morning been waiting for a call from hospital. Three always has issues, will be leaving after this.”

Another customer whose contract expires in three days said they will not be renewing their service. The user explained: “I have just checked my contract and it expires in 3 days time, I wont be renewing with them after this and the last all day outage a few months ago. Shame three use to be good but now a total joke of a network now. Back to O2.”

A fourth fumed: “Absolutely horrendous! I have a young child who is ill, and had to get him out of bed this morning and drive to our doctors surgery because I couldn’t call them! I’m also missing out on work!”

Others have been demanding compensation. One said: “Can’t make or receive calls. Newcastle Upon Tyne. Compensation now!”

Another added: “No Calls in Chesterfield or Sheffield. Just re-signed for another 2 years and I can’t make or recieve calls . Will I get a discount on my bill. I very much doubt it. It was supposed to improve after merging with Vodafone. Apparently Vodafone not good in my area so looks like things are gonna be even worse. Best of all can’t even ring and complain.”

“This has been happening on and off over the last 18 months,” another Three UK customer said as they threatened to ditch the network. The user continued: “Especially for those of us who rely on the network for work purposes. Have been considering a change of networks to be honest. Will we get a reduction in monthly cost or reimbursement for downtime? I don’t think so.”

Three UK said in a statement: “We’re aware of an issue affecting voice services and are working hard to fix it. Data services are working normally, so calls can be placed via third-party messaging apps. We’re really sorry for any inconvenience caused.”

The network provider has not offered customers a rough timeframe for when they can expect issues to be resolved. Its support agents have told customers “we don’t have a timeframe to share at present.”
