A charming rural village near Rochford and Hawkwell in Essex, that’s so tiny ‘no one knew it existed’, has finally got its own sign post, putting it on the map

A tiny village in Essex that ‘no one knew existed’ has been put firmly on the map as finally got a sign of its own.

There are dozens of small villages and hamlets around the outskirts of busier towns and cities in Essex, so it’s no wonder that some have been ‘forgotten’ when it comes to welcome signs. There’s one village that’s so small that many people reportedly didn’t even know it existed.

The teeny village, known as Stroud Green, hasn’t had its own sign until recently. Situated near Rochford and Hawkwell, the village – which is right in the heart of rural Essex – is known as a bright and vibrant place. For anyone looking for a slower and more peaceful lifestyle, the charming cottages and winding streets of Stroud Green are perfect. The village is, according to EssexLive, ‘pretty quiet’, but does boast a pub, beauty salon, and garden centres.

It’s also a great village for anyone who commutes to work, thanks to being located just a short distance from Rochford, which has its own train station. This pretty village also has some reasonable house prices. Properties in Stroud Green had an overall average price of £308,945 over the last year according to Rightmove, well below the Essex average.

Essex is United said on Facebook: “It’s brilliant to see that this little Essex hamlet nestled between Rochford and Hawkwell now has its own sign. It is located on the roundabout between Hall Road and Cherry Orchard Way.” Locals flocked to Facebook at the news, stating that they had never heard of Stroud Green. One said: “Never knew this existed, must be all of 100 yds long!”

Last month we reported how a ‘fairytale English village which attracts visitors because of its idyllic charm has remained ‘completely untouched’ by time and is owned by just one family.

It attracts people because of its Christmas card appearance which becomes more romantic when it gets a sprinkling of snow in winter months. Downham can be found in the Lancashire countryside on the edge of the Forest of Bowland and is one of the most picturesque places in the Peak District. So if you visit the village in winter look out for cosy cottages with sparkling lights and festive wreaths. LancsLive reports Downham has pretty buildings and beautiful views and is full of whimsical charm.
