FOX Sports have made a “strategic investment” into Tom Brady’s entertainment and marketing studio Shadow Lion, deepening their ties with the NFL legend. Brady has been working with the broadcaster since he confirmed his retirement in 2023.

The seven-time Super Bowl winner left Tampa Bay Buccaneers and moved into the commentary booth in 2023, signing a breath-taking 10-year contract worth £285million ($375m). At times, his commentary left much to be desired, with some fans describing his voice as “nails on a chalkboard” in the summer of 2024.

However, FOX Sports is so happy with their working relationship with Brady, they have pledged to invest into his company Shadow Lion, which he co-founded with Gilad Haas, according to reports in the US. Brady has since offered his thoughts on the new relationship and could not be happier.

He told the Hollywood Reporter: “It’s extending this Fox Sports experience beyond just NFL games on Sunday. How do we branch out and continue to tell stories year round and develop original content, original series, things that are behind the scenes that everybody wants to see.

“You find different partnerships with different athletes, different brands, I think it’s just exponential growth. And I’m so excited to have all these things happen in one place.”

It’s currently unknown as to what the new deal’s financial implications are for both parties. However, FOX Sports CEO and producer Eric Shanks described the agreement as a “long term” relationship.

Shanks said: “Once we met them, it became pretty clear that a partnership with Shadow Lion and Tom could Give Fox Sports, I think, a different gear, a new gear, and as time went on, it became a natural conversation and investment for the long term.”

It’s not the first time FOX have made a move of this nature. They recently made a significant investment in Penske Entertainment, who are the owner of Indycar and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The company also holds stakes in the video firm Holywater and BJ Novak’s food company, Chain, while it’s also in business with Gordon Ramsey’s ‘Studio Ramsey Global’.

Further elaborating on the new arrangement, Brady added: “I think a lot of it is just shared values and shared principles. I think if you look at Fox and that culture of people, and the amazing energy from the top.

“From Lachlan [Murdoch] and Eric Shanks, who I work with, and [Fox Sports executive producer and president of production] Brad Zager, all the incredible passion they have for telling stories, we do it every weekend. And then I look at Shadow Lion, they’ve got just incredible drive to succeed.

“Fox has obviously tremendous infrastructure and reach. They have massive scale. And then you have Shadow Lion, which provides its own unique creativity.

“We’re in such a world of entertainment now, and I think Shadow Lion continues to capture that.”
