Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has come under fire for his performance in the team’s 47-9 defeat to Detroit Lions – with Tom Brady offering his opinion

Tom Brady has highlighted the Dallas Cowboys’ inability to run the football as their main issue following their latest NFL defeat.

The Cowboys were humiliated 47-9 by the Detroit Lions on Sunday, with quarterback Dak Prescott throwing two interceptions in the crushing loss at AT&T Stadium.

This marks Dallas’ worst home defeat since 1988 and leaves them with a 3-3 record this season. Brady was providing commentary for FOX Sports during Sunday’s game, and he was asked for his opinion on the Cowboy’s struggles.

“The number one issue is their ability to run the football,” said Brady. “I said earlier in the show, maybe the best way to do it is throw the ball early and then open the run game up because you’ve done a good job spreading the field and now they’re going to play pass defense. I think they’re trying to start these games trying to be balanced.

“But the problem, is when they’re balanced they’re not producing the run game, a quarter or a half into the game, they’re down 14 (or) they’re down 17 – and now they are one dimensional. And the other team has made them one dimensional. I would like to see them start the game a little more pass happy, a little more pass orientated, try to gain a lead.”

Brady continued: “They’ve got a lot of things they need to fix offensively from what I’ve seen. Offensively, running the ball and getting other guys involved other than CeeDee Lamb that can make some plays.”

Prescott should take a leaf out of Brady’s book as the heat is on for the quarterback. The 31-year-old has just inked a four-year extension worth a whopping $240million, catapulting him to the top of the NFL pay scale with an average yearly salary of $60m.

Despite his hefty paycheck, Prescott’s playoff track record stands at a disappointing 2-5. The former NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year and three-time Pro Bowler might boast an impressive CV, but it’s the number of championships he secures with the Cowboys that will define his legacy.

The Cowboys, one of the most iconic teams in the NFL with five Super Bowl wins under their belt, are desperate to clinch their first championship since 1995. Jerry Jones, the team’s owner and general manager who just celebrated his 82nd birthday on Sunday, expressed his frustration after the game, saying: “I think it was the just the feeling of the team having fun at our expense, Detroit having fun at our expense.”

Jones didn’t mince his words, calling the outcome “very concerning”, “very humbling” and “a shocker”. He continued: “I think that any time you get beat, you create question marks. When you get beat like this, you create more question marks.”

Meanwhile, the Detroit Lions have had a strong start to the season, now sitting at 4-1 in the fiercely contested NFC North. While the Minnesota Vikings lead the division with an unbeaten 5-0, both the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers have kicked off strongly, each with a 4-2 record.
