Birmingham City look well placed to earn an instant return to the Championship under their glitzy American owners and the Midlands side are now interested in one of their former stars

Birmingham City have targeted a sensational move for former star Nathan Redmond to bolster their promotion hopes.

The Blues were relegated to League One at the end of last season – the first under the control of their new Knighthead owners. The Americans have since welcomed NFL icon Tom Brady as an investor.

And the club’s new owners have Birmingham well stationed for an instant return to the Championship. Saturday’s 2-0 win against Blackpool leaves the club just one point off top spot in League One.

And it now appears that the Midlands side are ready to invest to get them over the line. According to The Sun, Birmingham are targeting an ambitious move for Burnley star Nathan Redmond.

The winger, now 30, started his career at St Andrews, making 82 appearances before a move to Norwich. Redmond has gone on to play for Southampton, Besiktas and now Burnley albeit hasn’t appeared at all this season.

Redmond also has one England cap to his name – that solitary Three Lions appearance coming in 2017. Birmingham are apparently targeting him on loan.

Upon leaving the club back in 2013, Redmond issued an emotional farewell statement, while he also apologised for his exit. Taking to social media, he wrote: “It has been a very emotional 11 years for me at Birmingham City FC and I have loved every single minute of it.

“Coming through the ranks with Mitchell Hancox and Callum Reilly has been a journey and a half and I have loved it. I really really am going to miss it from the bottom of my heart.
