Shark and Dyson have kicked off the spring clean season by cutting up to £200 off their cordless and robot vacuum cleaners

The Sun has been shining this week, and while many of us are glad to be getting outdoors, this is a crucial time for the indoors. That’s because we’re entering the spring cleaning season.

We often see the first weeks of spring as the time when shoppers invest in new gadgets and gizmos to help get their houses looking spick and span. This year is no different, with our team of shopping writers already seeing an uptick in vacuum cleaner sales, including popular devices like Amazon’s Smoture Cordless Vacuum Cleaner (£129.99) and the Shark Stratos Pet Pro (£288).

As it draws closer, all eyes may be on Amazon and its upcoming Spring Deal Days sale, but Shark and Dyson are already in the middle of their own spring sales, and there is up to £200 off select cordless vacuums and robot vacuum cleaners. Dyson’s latest offerings range from the V8 Absolute (£249.99) to the 360 Vis Nav robot vacuum (£999.99).

The V8 Absolute is touted as the ‘most versatile V8’, which Dyson says is designed to clean all floor types, as well as awkward spaces and upholstery. Ideal for homes with pets, this is among the Dyson vacuums boasting de-tangling technology that removes hair from the brush roll and sucks it straight into the dustbin.

It has a 40-minute runtime and comes with a handful of attachments including a mattress tool, crevice tool and a Fluffy cleaner head specifically designed for cleaning hard floors. It’s been hailed as the ‘best of all cordless vacuums’ by Dyson customers, who say it’s ‘fantastic’ at tackling pet hair.

“The Dyson V8 is fantastic at taking up pet hair, stubborn debris and working on carpet and hard flooring,” one user said. “The vortex-like motor works so well and the length of use is brilliant. I’ve found using it for up to an hour. This is a stand out in its field.”

Another said: “Effortless to control, easy to empty, whisper quiet motor, excellent suction. [It] works over laminate and carpet with ease and long-lasting battery.”

But one less-impressed shopper said: “The plastic it’s made from seems a bit brittle, I’m not sure how it would fair if accidentally dropped.”

However, the highest-rated vacuum in the Dyson sale is the V15 Detect Total Clean (£549.99), which also comes with a free charging dock worth £100. Dyson claims this vacuum has more suction power at the floor ‘than any other cordless vacuum’ thanks to the powerful motor spinning at up to 125,000rpm.

It offers up to 60 minutes’ run time, automatic de-tangling of pet hair and a HEPA filter that captures 99.99% of microscopic particles, according to Dyson. It also comes with an extra cleaner head that illuminates dust on hard floors and a large 0.76L dustbin so it needs emptying less often.

Dyson customers have awarded the V15 Detect a 4.6-star rating after more than 14,000 reviews, with one happy customer saying it’s an ‘absolute joy’ to use.

“The Dyson V15 is an absolute joy to use,” they said. “It glides effortlessly around furniture on carpets. The fluffy brush is great for hard floors stairs, so easy to clean with the mini turbo brush. Wonderful pick-up and so effortless to use.”

Another said: “High price, top quality. I cannot believe how much dust and dog hairs this has picked up compared to our V10. The price almost stopped us from buying this when compared with other makes. I’m glad we ignored them in favour of this Dyson.”

Despite saying it ‘picks up well’, another shopper said: “This is a lot louder than the V8, and sometimes it does not always empty completely so I have to put my hand inside to get it all out.”

At Shark, one of the more popular models in the sale that’s hundreds less than the V15 and just as well-reviewed is the Stratos Anti Hair Wrap Plus Pet Pro Cordless Vacuum (£288). Shark says this delivers the ‘best ever hair pick-up’ on carpet and hard floors and it also features the brand’s anti-hair wrap plus technology and a 60-minute runtime.

This model is ideal for pet owners as it includes an attachment that’s designed to remove embedded hair from upholstery, as well as the Clean Sense IQ function that automatically adjusts its cleaning power when detecting dust and debris, resulting in 50% more dirt pick-up. It can also bend under furniture, convert into a handheld vacuum and fold down for easy storage.

The Shark Stratos is among the highest rated Shark vacuums an average score of 4.5 stars, only 0.1 less than the more expensive Dyson V15.

One reviewer said of the Stratos: “I always thought Dyson were the hands-down winners of [vacuums] but this tops them all. My carpets look amazing like they are new again and the smell that comes from the anti-odour compartment is amazing. Makes housework much more satisfying and having two batteries with a charger pack means I’m never without charge.”

Another said: “The suction is out of this world, I cannot believe it. I never thought I would rid my house of pet hair. If you have pets or problems with pet hair, look no further.”

However, one user pointed out a ‘slight niggle’ with the Stratos, writing: “It doesn’t stand on its own and you have to take the wand off to empty the bucket which fills up delightfully quickly with more dust and dirt than you knew you had.”

Some of the more affordable models in the Shark sale include the Anti Hair Wrap Cordless Vacuum (£175) and the corded Classic Upright Vacuum (£129.99), but bear in mind these won’t beat the suction power and versatility of the Stratos.
