Testimonies of nurses included in a new report released today speak of the ‘all but broken’ NHS, painting a horrifying picture of a health service let down by Tory politicians

NHS decay has to end

In a shocking report today, nurses tell of their despair and frustration at the terrible state of the NHS.

Their testimonies paint a grim picture of a health service that is all but broken, where patients are regularly treated in corridors and people are dying because they do not receive medical assistance in time. It is indefensible that, as one nurse recalls, a patient was found dead under a pile of coats.

Nurses should not be having to scramble around trying to find oxygen masks, cardiac monitors and other life-saving equipment. A health service which used to be the envy of the world is struggling to provide the care patients need and deserve. The dedication of these frontline staff cannot be faulted.

The only people who should hang their heads in shame are the Tory politicians who left the NHS on its knees. It is now the task of Labour to rescue the country’s most loved and valued institution.

Testing issue

Should animals still be used for medical research? A majority of Brits, according to a poll, would like to see an end to it. They are in line with campaigners who claim advances in science and technology mean it is no longer needed.

Others would argue that it is a necessary evil. A vaccine for polio, a treatment for tuberculosis and organ transplants are a few of the medical breakthroughs which would not have possible without animal testing.

Even if a complete ban is a step too far, there are legitimate questions to be asked about why so many animals are still sacrificed in the name of science.

Rest in peace
