An Irish tourist was left pleasantly surprised during his debut visit to Scotland after a kindly couple settled his £25 bill for breakfast at Glasgow’s Café Gandolfi.
Idris Oyeniyi, who had relished a breakfast in the renowned café, was about to foot the bill when he learned it was already taken care of by a couple of strangers.
The generous act came from an anonymous pair who had eavesdropped on him mentioning it was his first Scottish trip to the café staff and decided to make his experience even more memorable by paying for his meal.
Originally hailing from Kildare in Ireland and now residing in Birmingham, the 29-year-old commented: “I was quite taken aback by it to be honest.
“I hadn’t even spoke to them before that point,” he continued, expressing his surprise. “It wasn’t like I was going to cry necessarily but they really didn’t have to do that. It was just pure kindness and I wasn’t expecting it.”

Touched by Idris’ eagerness to explore Scottish heritage and cuisine, the couple chose to show their warmth by quietly covering his £25 food bill.
Sharing more on the encounter, Idris said: “The woman really liked that I was visiting to discover Scotland.”
They revealed a personal connection to the location: “It was her birthday that day and her husband has proposed to her in that café so I could tell it meant a lot to her.”
Known as Eddy on his YouTube channel where he shares his travel adventures, Idris was in Glasgow just for the weekend, but this act of kindness has spurred him to further explore Scotland in the future.
Idris remarked: “I’ve now been to Edinburgh, Dundee, Isle of Arran and a few others.”
Voicing his affection for Scotland, he shared: “I think my favourite so far has been Dundee but I want to go round all the different Scottish islands now.”
True to his intrepid spirit, Idris takes advantage of the weekends to travel. He said: “I do a lot of my travels over the weekends so being able to go somewhere in the UK makes it a lot easier.”
