Two British friends were left ‘baffled’ after they were told they were the only two guests at their Greek hotel – but they decided not to complain and upgraded to a private pool instead

Two British women on a Greek getaway were left scratching their heads after realising they were the only guests checked into their hotel. Tors Eardley, 20, and her mate rocked up at the Irene Apartments in Agios Gordios, Corfu, only to be greeted by a deserted pool and an eerily quiet town.

Due to travelling off-season, the pair discovered just a smattering of bars and eateries were still serving. Upon check-in, they were gobsmacked when the receptionist informed them that they were the sole occupants of the establishment.

On the bright side, the girls scored one of the swankier rooms due to the low occupancy. Despite the pool appearing in the online advert for the place, they were gutted to find out it was actually a communal feature with two other properties and was inconveniently closed for the weekend for maintenance.

In a quest for grub and beverages around 4pm, they trundled into town only to find every shop had shut up for the day, reports the Express.

“We booked a really cheap holiday to Corfu, and we’re in a town where there’s nothing open, no shops, no restaurants, no locals, there was no one even in the hotel,” Tors said.

The initial amusement soon fizzled when the stark reality set in: “We laughed for about an hour, then we realised we had no water and hardly any food [available in the area]. We soon stopped laughing.”

Even more disappointing was their balcony view – just a metal fence – and the lack of any poolside vibes since it was closed off-season.

The room size and kitchen were decent, but the vibe was anything but lively; what’s more, the receptionist nicked off home, leaving them completely alone on the premises.

They had forked out £200 for their four-day getaway but ultimately chose to switch accommodations.

Tors remarked: “For £200 for four days on a bank holiday weekend, we can’t do too much complaining. The local area was lovely and would be nice in season when everything is open. It turns out that people have siestas so at about 6pm, two shops opened so we were able to get some food.

“[But] we ended up booking a different hotel so we could have a pool and we got a private pool so it went from a budget holiday to a boujee holiday.”

Despite the less than ideal start, the duo opted not to lodge a complaint with their travel provider or Irene Apartments.

Tors explained: “There was no point in complaining, the holiday cost so little that it wasn’t worth it. We paid £200 for two nights at a new hotel, the Agios Gordios beach resort.”
