If your socks are looking a little bit stained or grey, then this life hack will help you transform them back to dazzling, bright white in just one hour using a simple but ‘powerful’ recipe

A savvy cleaning lover has revealed her go-to method for brown mucky socks and people can’t wait to try it.

Over time white socks can easily lose their brightness, leaving you frustrated by them looking dingy and grey even when they are freshly laundered. Socks get a lot of wear, and have to endure hard use with every step you take, whether that’s just a gentle stroll to the shops or a long run in the park after work.

If you are looking for a way to get your sad, stained socks to their original bright white state, then you need to look no further than this seriously simple and easy life hack from the cleaning fanatic.

The hack was posted by content creator and cleaning enthusiast, Chantel Mila Ibbotsen, on her Instagram page, where she uses the handle @mama_mila_au. She broke down exactly how to get your stained and grimy socks back to brilliant white.

“How to make your white clothes look new again,” she wrote on the short video she posted explaining the super easy cleaning method. Chantel popped the items that needed stain removing and brightening into a bowl, before covering them with warm water.

She then made up a simple solution from common household items, “1/4 cup of hydrogen peroxide (to brighten and disinfect” mixed with one cup of baking soda “to deodorise and brighten”. She then added one teaspoon of dish soap to her solution, “to rid oil-based stains” but noted that this step is entirely optional, so you can skip it if you prefer.

Once the solution is mixed, simply leave to soak and then wash your laundry as usual, and watch this “powerful mix” remove stains and brighten your white socks or clothes that have become stained or discoloured over time. The content creator, who has wracked up 2.7 million followers from her cleaning hacks, gained over 75,000 likes for her white brightening method and hundreds of comments.

“Just what the doctor ordered,” wrote one user, and another commented: “I will try…hope this works!” A third wrote, “I picked up some hydrogen peroxide and I am so excited.”

There are a few things that can exacerbate the yellowing or staining of white clothes, including using too much fabric condition, per Washing machine company Whirlpool, and normal bodily excretions like sweat can also cause this, so it’s good practice to wash any white clothing you have regularly after you have worn it.
