Travis Kelce is set to appear in the upcoming Happy Gilmore 2 film, but he was nearly given a much bigger role according to lead actor Adam Sandler who wanted him to play his son

Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce could have been on the brink of a Hollywood breakout in Happy Gilmore 2, as per the lead actor Adam Sandler.

Sandler, who earlier this year thrilled fans with the announcement of a follow-up to his 1996 hit film Happy Gilmore, set to debut on Netflix, disclosed that Kelce will feature in the much-anticipated sequel. An avid golfer and fan of the original film, which follows Happy Gilmore’s unlikely rise in the golfing world, Kelce’s cameo is a dream situation for the NFL megastar.

The tight end has also struck up a friendship with Sandler, evidenced by the actor’s guest appearance on Kelce’s podcast New Heights, which he hosts with his brother Jason. It was here that Sandler let slip that Kelce had been considered for the role of his son in Happy Gilmore 2.

Chatting about the upcoming film on the podcast, Sandler said: “The whole thing was to get to hang out with Travis. That’s why we put it together. We’re going there (to New Jersey to film the movie).”

He added: “Travis, by the way, thank you, I heard you talking about (the movie) on your show, you guys. We were talking about you playing my son while we were writing it, literally, like six months ago. We were like, imagine if Travis was my first baby, how funny that would be. Just a bad a–.”

Upon hearing the scoop, Kelce’s reaction was priceless as his jaw dropped, but fans can expect to see the NFL star feature in the final edit. Teasing the insight during an appearance on “The Jimmy Fallon Show”, Adam Sandler casually dropped that Taylor Swift’s beau was set for a cameo, gushing: “We have a nice something for Travis.”

“He’s gonna come by. He’s a very nice guy. You guys would love him in real life. What a big, handsome guy. Funny and cool as hell. He’s a stud and he’s so funny.”

Delving into specifics on a podcast, Sandler addressed Kelce directly and said: “Travis, we’re gonna have fun, because the scene you’re doing is with so many great golfers. It’s gonna be amazing. You’re gonna be funny as hell.”

The conversation rounded out with Sandler sharing his family’s excitement over Kelce’s high-profile relationship with Swift. His admiration was palpable as he added: “By the way, what a girl. What a girl,” regarding Swift. “Dude, she means so much to our house.”

Sandler, having crossed paths with Swift multiple times, continued expressing gratitude for her consistently warm reception of his family. Summing up his awe, Sandler said: “She just floors my family, floors them. Somebody asked me, ‘Who do you get nervous around? ‘ I said I do get nervous around Taylor Swift because I don’t want to blow it in front of my kids and say something stupid.”

“She means so much to my house, I better say the right thing here. “You being together and … when you guys first started dating, my God was my family like, ‘Yes! Look how good they are together. He’s a gentleman, and she’s having so much fun with it. Like, anytime Taylor’s laughing with you, my whole family’s like high-fiving.”
