A travel expert has claimed that one country is the best location for a long stopover

A travel-savvy TikTok user has dropped a major hack for those looking to slash hundreds off their long-haul flight tickets. ‘nicoletravelandlife’ reveals the secret to saving big is by simply including a mini-break in your journey and she recommends Bulgaria as the ideal pit-stop.

In her video, Nicole spills that stopping over in Bulgaria can nip up to £150 off your ticket price for far-flung destinations across Asia, parts of Africa, and the Middle East.

Backing this budget-friendly tactic, Manor FX founder Mario Van Poppel points out: “By routing through Bulgaria’s capital, Sofia, travellers can secure cheaper long-haul flights to destinations like Asia, the Middle East and even parts of Africa.”

He added: “It’s a true hidden gem when it comes to travel savings as its Southeast Europe location is closer to other continents. And it’s a more affordable layover than other European hubs.”

“Not only are flights cheaper, but Bulgaria itself is a budget-friendly location, making it well worth a trip.”

Sofia, Bulgaria’s bustling capital, is not just a waypoint for thrifty flyers. From the awe-inspiring Alexander Nevsky Cathedral to the serene Vitosha Mountain on the city’s outskirts.

Van Poppel states: “From Alexander Nevsky’s Cathedral, one of the largest Eastern Orthodox cathedrals in the world, to Vitosha Mountain, a short drive out of the city, there’s lots to see and do in Sofia.

“Visitors will also be treated to hearty local cuisine, such as the cheese-filled pastry called banista and kavarma, a slow-cooked meat stew, at a fraction of the cost to other cities in Western Europe.”

In Bulgaria, you can find decent accommodation with mid-range hotels averaging around £40-£60 per night. Plus, a pint of beer usually costs between £1.70 and £2.20.

Nicole also shared some savvy travel tips for those on a budget, suggesting that January is the ideal time to book for a quick city break. She revealed that you can often snag deals with flights and accommodation for less than £100.
