One part of the UK is potentially rolling out a blanket 20mph speed limit in a bold move to curb the rising toll on the nation’s roads. Transport Scotland revealed that road fatalities across the country increased to 160 in 2024. As a result, Transport Secretary, Fiona Hyslop warned that she would take action to prevent this from happening again.

“Behind every one of these statistics is a person or a household that has been changed forever,” declared Hyslop. “One life lost on our roads is one too many, and I want to reiterate that road safety remains an absolute priority for the Scottish Government.

“I remain absolutely determined to save lives and ensure we continue working towards our long-term vision of no one being killed or seriously injured on Scotland’s roads by 2050.”

However, not everyone’s on board with the proposed speed limit shake-up, reports Birmingham Live. One irate motorist blasted the idea, sarcastically remarking: “That will do wonders for the Net Zero campaign…. Not!

“My brother was parked outside a shop last week and one of them drove into the back of his car, then took off without giving any insurance details!”.

“Fortunately he had witnesses who gave him the idiot’s registration number. I would love to know how they come off a dinghy one week and they are driving around in new cars the next!”

One critic raged: “Just a cash cow scheme . OUTLAW financial fines and the camera will no longer be necessary… This is about making money. It is not keeping people safe! BAN EXTORTION CAMERAS!!”.

Another added: “What happened to public information films for pedestrian road safety? We were shown them at school and also national TV, showing my age here. Better pedestrian awareness will help.”
