Met Office weather forecasts show high temperatures of 26C and clear, sunny weather coming to the UK this weekend – but two unlucky areas could be miss out, with rain expected

Hot weather and glorious sunny skies are being tipped for the UK this weekend – but two unlucky areas could miss out.

New Met Office forecasts show highs of 26C are possible in some areas of the southeast on Saturday, with conditions in the low to mid-20s across much of the rest of the UK. The warm weather is being caused by a dominant area of high pressure moving over the British Isles. But this summery feel is not expected to extend to the far north and northwest, where the forecasting agency says “showers and more unsettled conditions are likely”.

Andrea Bishop, spokesperson at the Met Office, told the Mirror on Wednesday: “High pressure dominates at the moment. The temperatures will be slightly above average for the time of year and Saturday is looking like the warmest day this week, when temperatures could peak at 26C.”

The summery weather is, however, accompanied by a warning for hayfever sufferers amid high pollen forecasts, and she added: “We are encouraging people to take note of the pollen count and UV levels as these will both be high this week. So, if you do have hayfever, it may be unpleasant and you should take relief. Today, pollen levels will be at their highest at around 1pm and they’ll remain high for most of the week. There are instances of high pollen levels and UV levels over the next few days, including Saturday, so we are encouraging people to be aware.”

The pleasant weather will only last a few days however, with the weather taking a more rainy and unsettled turn by the end of the weekend due to a shift in the high pressure system. Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Tony Wisson said: “Many places will start fine and warm on Sunday, though it is likely to become cloudier from the west or southwest during the day. This will be accompanied by scattered showers, which could be heavy with thunder. On Monday we’re likely to see more widespread and longer-lived spells of rain, some of which will be heavy and thundery. This will also lead to a much cooler feel to the day.”
