In a survey conducted by Which?, it was revealed that the best baked beans aren’t from the famous brand Heinz, but the ones from a low-cost supermarket and they’re delicious.
Baked beans are considered a British staple, especially when it comes to traditional British breakfast. In a quest to find out which is the best-rated brand in the UK market, you’d be shocked to find out that it’s not the iconic Heinz.
Baked beans are so versatile. They can be eaten on toast, as part of a cooked breakfast, or even as a side dish. The best thing about baked beans is that you can eat it straight from the can, either hot or cold.
In a survey conducted by Which?, which compared big brands with smaller labels, it was found that Heinz’s famous Baked Beans got beaten by Aldi ’s Bramwells Baked Beans in a Rich Tomato Sauce. And you’ll be even more shocked to find out that Heinz took the fifth place and got beaten by the supermarkets ‘ own brands of baked beans!

To find out which beans were the best, 66 blindfolded tasters were asked to rank a variety of beans from Heinz and Branston, as well as supermarket own-brands, including Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Asda, and Aldi. The tasters rated the beans based on aroma, texture, and flavour, with each product being sampled without knowing which brand it was.
In the surprising results, it was found that Aldi’s beans took the top spot, with a total rank of 76% in satisfaction from the panel. Even better, they’re one of the cheapest beans with a price of 41p for a 410g can – a total bargain. This makes them not only the best choice in terms of quality, but also one of the most budget-friendly options.
Compared to Aldi’s beans, tasters said its aroma and flavour were perfect, and the texture was just right. In second place and third place, it was Branston and Co-op, respectively, followed by Asda securing the fourth spot. Yes, Heinz’s beans took fifth place.

The results raised eyebrows, considering that Heinz is such a popular brand in the UK. But while Heiz didn’t make it to the top three in the ranking, its beans took the first place in terms of flavour and texture.
The blind taste proves that although Heinz’s brand is loved by many, there are other alternatives in the market, which are much cheaper and with a better flavour.
