The village of Croyde in Devon has become one of the most popular staycation destinations in the UK, with Brits ditching holidays abroad for the surfing capital of North Devon.

The ‘surfing capital of North Devon’ with its golden sands and turquoise waters, has emerged as an unexpected staycation favourite for families, couples, and thrill-seekers alike.

The trend of holidaying in the UK is on the rise, and holidaymakers are making a beeline to Devon and Cornwall in large numbers, with the village of Croyde becoming a fast favourite.

Famous for its golden beaches, world-class surfing, and stunning coastal walks, this Devon village is an ideal spot for both family vacations and romantic retreats.

Mark Hutchins, a travel expert at Beachlets, commented: “Staycations have become more than just a passing trend.

“Since 2004, search interest in ‘staycations’ in the UK has grown by an incredible 9,772%, outgrowing interest in popular international hotspots like Bali, Dubai, Goa and even Spain.

“Turns out, Brits are becoming far more interested in what’s available on their doorstep than jet setting around the world.”

Croyde’s coastline, a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts, has gained fame as a surfing destination, even giving the popular Cornish destination of Newquay a run for its money.

While there are numerous surfing schools for beginners, those apprehensive about surfing can opt for body-boarding, another popular activity at Croyde Bay.

And Croyde isn’t just a haven for surfers, it also offers scenic walks and cycling routes along the South West Coast Path.

A standout spot on this route is Baggy Point, where visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the Atlantic and discover the area’s diverse wildlife.

For food lovers, Croyde Village offers a variety of dining options, from traditional pubs and sports bars to brunch spots. And if you’re visiting between April and November, don’t miss out on Croyde’s Ice Cream Parlour for a sweet indulgence.

There’s more to explore in the nearby areas, too, with Exmoor National Park and Watermouth Castle both just a half-hour drive away from Croyde.
