BBC Radio 2 host Vernon Kay has opened up about his home life with Tess Daly and daughters, as he admitted he’s treated like royalty when he’s ill but caught hell over one particular topic of discussion

BBC Radio 2’s Vernon Kay has been sharing some adorable insights into his family life, telling listeners about the Royal treatment he gets from wife Tess Daly and their daughters whenever he’s a bit under the weather. “I’ve got to say that when I am poorly, they treat me like a King my girls, they really do,” he enthused on Tuesday.

The 50-year-old broadcaster, who has won over listeners with tales of domestic bliss after joining BBC Radio 2 last year, revealed his home life also included being scolded for not always returning the same care with his family. Chuckling, Vernon confessed: “Sometimes I get shouted at because it’s not reciprocated, I think is the right word.”

Even though he’s admittedly not quite as attentive in sickness and in health, Vernon often makes light-hearted apologies for his one-sided nursing: “You know, I apologise on a regular basis, so yeah, there you go, they really do look after me.”

Vernon’s no stranger to giving fans a glimpse behind the curtains of his family life, opening up about the couple’s cute morning rituals. He recounted mornings with Tess Daly, saying: “I have Strictly Come Dancing’s Tess Daly roll over and go, ‘It’s time to get up’, with a dig of the elbow, ‘Come on, get up.'”

Radio colleague Zoe Ball couldn’t help but tease him, responding: “Oh, you’re a lucky man! Living the dream Vernon Kay, honestly.”

The love between Vernon and Tess seems as strong as ever; they celebrated a milestone 20th wedding anniversary last year after getting hitched in Horwich back in 2003, reports OK!

During a candid Instagram Q&A, the beloved Strictly Come Dancing host Tess Daly let slip some secrets about her long-lasting love story with Vernon Kay. She gushed: “We still sit down for dinner and have so much to talk about, we still have a real laugh. I see when his name comes up on his phone, I’m like ‘yay’.”

Tess went on to say: “We have a good laugh, he’s always messing about, dancing and singing in the kitchen. [There’s] never a dull moment.”

Vernon Kay is set to dazzle as part of the presenting team for BBC Children in Need 2024, joining forces with Rochelle Humes who makes a comeback to the hosting scene for the first time since 2019. The dynamic duo will be part of this year’s star-studded ensemble including Ade Adepitan MBE, Mel Giedroyc, Chris Ramsey, and Lenny Rush.

They’ll be broadcasting live from MediaCityUK in Salford on BBC One and iPlayer starting at 7pm on Friday 15 November 2024, promising an evening brimming with entertainment and charity efforts.
