Crisp fans say it is a ‘national disgrace’ after claiming when they open their favourite flavour of Walkers crisps, they are an unfamiliar shape, and some say they taste different

There’s nothing like tucking into a packet of crisps when you are in need of a snack, but Walkers fans have been left outraged after spotting a huge problem with their favourite crisps recently.

Since coming out in the ’80s, Walkers Squares have continued to be a popular choice of crisps. Their salty, crispy taste and iconic square shape have had people munching on them for years.

But, when you look at the crisps closely they’re actually not what you’d expect. Recently customers have noticed the crisps, famous for their square shape, don’t look quite right. “They’re not square anymore,” one outraged on X (formerly Twitter).

A number of people took to the social media platform to share their confusion after opening a packet of Squares. Samantha Winton said: “@walkers_crisps What’s happened to your Squares crisps! They’re not square anymore. They’re crinkly and shrivelled!”

One individual agreed and said: “We have a six pack [of Squares crisps] like this too.” Another individual asked Walkers: “I see loads of folk complaining about your S&V squares. My whole multipack is thin wrinkly curly squares. They’re half the thickness that they were. Just own up and admit you have cost-cut and changed the recipe!

“It’s a national disgrace!”

Reacting to the tweet, another crisp fan added: “You’re not alone several packets down and not one square. All wrinkly and shrivelled!” Responding to the annoyed individual a spokesperson for Walkers said: “Hi Natalie, we’re sorry to see this. If you still have your single pack, please DM us a photo of the best-before-date area, and we’ll be in touch to help put this right. Thanks.”

Walkers responded to Samantha’s tweet and said: “Sorry to see that, Samantha. Please could you DM us a photo of this pack’s best-before date area? We’ll be in touch to help.”

Meanwhile, Karen Blaney shared her crisp packet, saying: “3rd packet out of a multi-pack with not square Squares, hmm.” To this post, the brand replied: “Sorry to see this, Karen. Please DM us a photo of your pack’s best-before-date area, & we’ll be in touch to help.”

Another suggested that the flavour has been changed, and wrote: “Bought a multi-pack of salt and vinegar Squares from Sainsbury last week and every packet I’ve attempted to eat has tasted of what can only be described as chemical.”

One other individual took to X and asked: “Not a complaint just curious! Why are your Walkers ‘Squares’ not square anymore…”

Walkers responded and said: “Hi, we hope this hasn’t spoilt your enjoyment of Squares! We’re making sure this is flagged to our factory team.”

The Mirror has contacted Walkers for a comment.
