The warning comes as, for the second year running, many providers are offering price-freeze deals to new customers this March

Experts are sounding the alarm that a multitude of UK households could be shelling out more than necessary for their broadband, blissfully unaware of the potential savings. If your contract has expired, it’s prime time to switch and secure a more wallet-friendly deal before the inevitable price surges come into effect in April.

For the second consecutive year, a host of providers, including big names like BT, Sky, Virgin Media, TalkTalk, Plusnet, and Vodafone, are tempting new customers with price-freeze offers this March. The deals on the table now are, on average, only 6% pricier than those during Black Friday and a full 10% less costly than they were at the same point last year. Experts at Broadband Genie caution that delaying making the switch could hit your pocket harder over time.

Peter Ames, a broadband expert at Broadband Genie, advised: “The best time to switch broadband is always as soon as you’re out of contract. However, if you are out of contract you should switch as soon as possible in order to minimise the impact of price rises.

“Switch now and, with most providers, you won’t face a price rise until next April. Every week you wait will increase the cost of the overall contract. As ever, the ideal situation is that Ofcom stops making half-baked attempts to tackle price rises changes and bans them outright.”

To beat the hikes and manage your monthly expenses better, Broadband Genie offers a calculator tool to help you hunt down the top deal.
