Pep Guardiola’s side are in Philadelphia for their opening fixture of the FIFA Club World Cup against Moroccan side Wydad Casablanca
Manchester City’s first game in the FIFA Club World Cup takes place today as the Blues take on Wydad AC. Pep Guardiola’s side kicks off Group G at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field, home of the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles.
The competition is City’s last chance at silverware following a disappointing season that saw them finish third in the Premier League and runners up in the FA Cup. They have since strengthened their squad with four new players who could debut in today’s fixture: Rayan Cherki, Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Marcus Bettinelli.
In his pre-game press conference, Guardiola said the new signings have the quality the club needs for the season to come. He said: “We’re really pleased because they all have huge quality in different positions.

“They bring what we need, and with this incredible amount of games we had at the end of the season, 11 months every three or four days is like this tournament, everyone is going to play. Hopefully, they can help us adapt as quickly as possible.
Man City’s first test in the Club World Cup is against Wydad Athletic Club – also known as Wydad Casablanca – who compete in the top tier of the Moroccan football league. They also finished their latest campaign in third place of the Botola Pro 1, but recently parted ways with coach Rhulani Mokwena after a mixed season.
