Waterworld has denied claims the four-year-old girl who tragically died at their water park did so in the wave pool.

The alarm was raised last Monday when the youngster was found in critical condition following an unspecified incident at Waterworld at Festival Park in Staffordshire. The ambulance team quickly took over resuscitation of the girl who was then rushed to hospital, where she later died.

Reports say the incident happened in the lagoon area of the park. It comes after a man dies and 9 more rushed to hospital after eating sandwich amid urgent recall.

Other parents have since come forward to say their children got into difficulty in the wave pool. However, Waterworld has confirmed no waves were operating at the time of the tragedy.

In a new statement, a Waterworld spokesman told Stoke-On-Trent Live: “Following the recent tragic accident that occurred at Waterworld on August 4 2025, our entire team extend their deepest thoughts and sympathy to the family of the young girl involved.

“We confirm that this incident did not take place in the Wave Pool, nor were the waves on at the time.

“We have worked in full cooperation with the authorities during their investigations, resulting in them permitting Waterworld to re pen as normal from Wednesday August 6.

“Waterworld welcomes around 250,000 visitors per year and, as you can imagine, our safety procedures are extremely rigorous.

“In relation to your quoted visitor’s comments about the Wave Pool… An audible siren sounds every time the waves are about to start and the waves build up gradually after the siren.

“The only entrance to the Wave Pool is via the shallow end, with a sloped beach entry, giving guests full visibility and discretion over whether to enter with their children.

“Safety has always been, and will remain, our top priority so that every visitor can enjoy their time at Waterworld Aqua Park.”

Police have yet to confirm the cause of death and have asked the public to avoid speculation on social media.
