A mum-of-two has been blasted online after she put up her Christmas decorations before Halloween – but she insists it makes her and her family happier putting them up early

A mum has unashamedly had her Christmas decorations up for almost a week – and despite “upsetting everybody,” she loves it for her family.

Halloween and Bonfire Night are well and truly over, which means many of us will be thinking about Christmas. It’s the age-old debate – how early is too early to put up your Christmas decorations? Mariah Carey has defrosted and London’s iconic Covent Garden lights have been switched on.

Tradition states that Christmas trees should be put up at the beginning of Advent, which begins on the fourth Sunday before Christmas – this year, that falls on December 1. New research by Next found 25% of us deck the halls in November. However, the start of December remains the most popular time to decorate the tree, with 41% of people preferring to do this.

One mum and content creator, Nicole, put her Christmas tree up with her family on October 29. She put up her tree with her two children and partner, and then the four of them enjoyed a Chinese takeaway – an annual tradition in their household after decking the halls.

The mum, who said her family prefer Christmas to Halloween, showed a video inside her stunning home and said indulging in a takeaway post decorating “has to be done.” The video, which has been viewed over two million times, divided opinion.

“I absolutely love Christmas but I just feel it would take away the magic if we had ours up too early, Christmas would feel too far away,” one individual commented.

“Oh come on,” said another. “Lovely, when it’s actually anywhere near Christmas,” said another.

One other supported the mum and said: “I absolutely love Christmas but I just feel it would take away the magic if we had ours up too early, Christmas would feel too far away.” “Studies show people who put their decs up early are generally happier people,” said one other.

But Nicole noted there are a number of very good reasons why she decided to decorated her home ready for Christmas in October. The mum-of-two works for a TikTok agency posted on her account @thenicoleworld, and said: “One of our biggest clients now is a Christmas decor brand so the tree you saw, the presents, the lights, the decorations, the garland in my video is all my clients stock.

“So the best way that I can sell my clients products and bring in the sales before Christmas is by creating really authentic, cosy, real feeling to the content. We don’t mind that because we normally put our decorations up in the middle of November, so we’re normally quite early anyway. So we didn’t mind doing it a bit earlier this year.”

The mum also pointed out that she is really busy in November and December, so coming home to the decorations is a reminder of what she is working hard for – “a really amazing Christmas with my family,” she said.

The mum continued: “It actually feels really nice, we are really happy with the decorations. The kids are ecstatic. They love them, they are having a really great time. It makes the dark mornings so much nicer.”

“Everyone has judged me and written horrible comments just because its earlier than they would like to put them up, but what I choose to do in my own home is down to me,” Nicole said.
