Political enemies Donald Trump and Barack Obama spoke about playing golf during an unusually intimate moment shared between the two. The presidential pair were spotted laughing together at former Oval Office incumbent Jimmy Carter’s funeral in January this year.

Now, a new book by three political reporters says Trump asked the predecessor to his first term for a game of golf, and boasted about his golf courses around the world. Trump owns a number of courses around the world, including two in Scotland. The book ‘2024: How Trump Retook the White House and the Democrats Lost America’ by Josh Dawsey, Tyler Pager and Isaac Arnsdorf said this occurred during the conversation between the two. What the pair were laughing about in a moment that Trump said looked “friendly”, remains unclear. It is also not known if Obama accepted the invitation.

Following the meeting, Trump told reporters: “’It did look very friendly, I must say. I didn’t realise how friendly it looked.

“’I saw it on your wonderful network just a little while ago before I came in and I said, ‘Boy, they look like two people that like each other,’.”

Reports at the time suggested that Trump asked for a “quiet place” for two to talk after the service. “I can’t talk, we have to find a quiet place, sometimes this is a matter of importance and we need to do this outside so that we can deal with it, certainly, today,” Trump said at the service according to forensic lip reader Jeremy Freeman, who spoke to the Daily Mail.

It remains unclear what the two planned to speak about.

The pair’s relationship has been fraught at best.

Donald Trump has repeatedly, and falsely, accused Obama of not being born in the US.

Obama also did not attend Trump’s second presidential inauguration in January this year.

The last-known private chat between them occurred in 2016 shortly after Trump was elected president for the first time.

In this conversation, Obama revealed his concerns over North Korea.

Also in the book, an in-depth history of the 2024 presidential election based on hundreds of interviews, are snippets of conversations between President Joe Biden and Trump.

“Biden called to congratulate Trump and invite him to visit the White House — the same customary courtesy that Trump had refused him four years earlier,” the book said.

Trump is said to have told Biden – the two have traded insults in public – that they would be “friends and go golfing” in “another life”.
