Manchester United are set to complete a bargain deal for Colombian wonderkid Cristian Orozco with the Red Devils set to add the youngster to their ever-growing list of promising youngsters

Cristian Orozco is set to move to Manchester United

The transfer window might have been shut for over a month but Manchester United are still hard at work getting deals done. The Red Devils remain keen to add new faces to their squad.

Cristian Orozco looks set to become the latest to complete a move to Old Trafford, with reports suggesting that United are on the verge of sealing a deal for his services. An agreement has been reached with his current side for a deal worth around $1million (£741,000).

The 17-year-old will officially move to England next summer, with his arrival signalling the next stage of the club’s plan to hoover up some of the most promising young talent in the world. Diego Leon, Sekou Kone, Chido Obi Martin and many more have already been tempted to move to the North West.

But who is Orozco and what will he bring? Mirror Football takes a closer look…

Who is Cristian Orozco?

Orozco is a young midfielder currently plying his trade for Colombian side Fortaleza. He only joined his current side from Rojo FC in the summer.

He is a slightly more defensive minded midfielder. Orozco has already made an impact on the international stage, having made nine appearances for the Colombia under-19 side.

What’s been said?

A lot has already been said about Orozco despite his tender years. One of his former coaches, Álvaro Escobar, said: “He has a positive leadership style that has allowed him to be captain of the Colombian national team. He expresses himself well and is receptive.

“He doesn’t get upset when corrected; it’s a pleasure to coach him.” Escobar shared his delight when he found out about the switch to Old Trafford: “I was very happy when I found out he could go to Manchester United.”

Campo Elías Santacruz has also been full of praise. He added: “With his character and playing style, he established himself in the U15 and U17 teams. Despite being so young, he always showed leadership in practice.

“He trained hard and, on and off the field, acted like a young man with experience. His teammates helped him grow, and today we can say he’s a great human being.”

Meanwhile, Orozco himself has also spoken out. Amid speculation that he could move to Old Trafford, he wrote on social media: “La buena pa’ todos, bendiciones”, which translates roughly to, “Good for everyone, blessings”, alongside an image of Diego Maradona.

When will he make his debut?

Despite a deal being close, it appears that it might be some time before United fans get to see him in action. United are not allowed to formally complete a deal until he turns 18, which will likely see him move to Old Trafford next summer. Even before then, club chiefs still have to complete the formalities of any deal.
