Andy Murray revealed he would wait until the last minute before deciding whether he was fit to compete at Wimbledon after the two-time winner’s recent injury struggles

Carlos Alcaraz wins Wimbledon Gentlemen’s Singles title

Andy Murray will take on Tomas Machac in the first round at Wimbledon – if he’s fit to take part.

“I’m trying everything I can to play, I’m practising on the court, I’m rehabbing and trying to accelerate this process to give myself a chance to play,” two-time champion Murray said amid reports he might have to pull out. “It has been mentioned to me, are you going to withdraw before the draw at 10am on Friday? And I’m like: ‘Well, no, I’m not. I’m going to wait until the last minute to see if I’m going to be able to and I’ve earned that right to do that’.”

Men’s top seed Jannik Sinner will be up against Yannick Hanfmann of Germany. Reigning champion Carlos Alcaraz, meanwhile, faces a meeting with Mark Lajal of Estonia in round one.

In the Ladies’ Singles, reigning champion Marketa Vondrousova will begin her title defence against Jessica Bouzas Maneiro of Spain. British number one Katie Boulter will take on Tatjana Maria of Germany, while Emma Raducanu – making her SW19 return after injury issues – is up against Ekaterina Alexandrova n the first round.

If Murray makes it through his first round test, Francisco Cerundulo could await in round two. The 26th seed is up against Roman Safiullin in round one.
