Everyone loves a bit of TLC when they’ve got the flu, right? One woman has now sent shockwaves through the internet after claiming that her partner acted rather peculiarly when she recently fell unwell

How far would you go to look after a partner who’s feeling under the weather?

There’s nothing better than being showered with some TLC while you’re suffering from a sick bug. Maybe your partner will cook, clean and run all your errands, while you curl up on the sofa and watch some reality TV.

Or perhaps lying in bed all day is more your kind of gig, with a constant supply of snacks and drinks delivered at your every request. But one woman has now sent shockwaves through the internet after claiming that her partner acted rather peculiarly when she recently fell unwell.

“We’ve travelled to another continent for his work last week,” she wrote in a post to Mumsnet. “I tagged along as he wanted me to but got very sick with sore throat and running nose two days ago.

“Last night, we went to bed at 10.30pm and I woke up literally feeling suffocated at 10.45pm. He hadn’t fallen asleep yet. I asked him if he could get me flu relief [and a] hot drink. It’s the only thing that actually works for me.”

It’s said the partner then went off to find some medication but came back empty-handed. Not only was there no flu relief at home, but the store two minutes away didn’t have any either.

The woman then explained that she tried falling asleep again, but this just didn’t seem to work. She continued: “I tried to sleep but was really struggling, so I asked him if there was any pharmacy nearby.

“He Googled and said the nearest one was half an hour away and couldn’t walk. He did have a car but didn’t offer to drive. I explicitly told him that I was really struggling and really needed some medicine. He wasn’t doing anything, so I asked him to at least phone reception for medication. “

If you thought this couldn’t get any worse, think again. Her partner apparently picked up the phone to only find that it was broken. So, he had to go downstairs and see whether anyone was around to help.

“At that stage, he was getting really mean to me,” she added. “Making comments like: ‘I want this over with, let’s get you a medicine and be done’ etc. It wasn’t even 11pm at this point.

“He came back with one random loose tablet which had no expiry date on and I didn’t know who touched it. Tablets never help me anyway, so I told him not to worry. Made myself some tea and dozed off.”

In the morning, the woman claimed that her partner’s foot was hurting, which he failed to mention the night before. She wondered whether this had influenced his rather irritable behaviour, adding that she is generally ‘not a princess’.

“Today, he texted me at work to see how I [was] only once, and when he got back I told him I didn’t feel like having dinner and he went out alone to eat. Don’t think he even asked me if I wanted anything. I find that lack of empathy/compassion a red flag.”

The woman’s post has since garnered countless comments, with many users divided over the troubling situation. One person wrote: “Imagine a future when you have children and whilst unwell, he won’t step up to give you time to recover. After only 18 months, he should be spoon feeding your Lemsip and bringing you all your favourite treats.”

However, another added: “”I think you sound quite princessy to be honest. It was late at night, he was probably tired. It’s not like he told you to get over yourself and did nothing.” A third also chimed in: “You do come across as a snowflake.”
