Eldiara was diagnosed with stage 3 synovial sarcoma, a rare type of soft tissue cancer, when she was just 19 years old – and has shared some of the symptoms she noticed before she was diagnosed
A woman who received a cancer diagnosis in her teens has spoken out about the five warning signs that led her to seek medical advice.
Eldiara, now 22, is raising awareness about the importance of staying on top of health check-ups after she learned she had a very rare form of the disease.
In 2021, at just 19 years old, Eldiara was diagnosed with stage 3 synovial sarcoma, a rare type of soft tissue cancer.
Since then, she has undergone chemotherapy for a recurrence, which unfortunately resulted in median nerve palsy in her right hand. This development meant she needed a third surgery to amputate her arm.
Eldiara took to TikTok to share her story, highlighting the key indicators that prompted her to seek medical help. She explained: “Here are a few things that tipped me off to the fact something was not right.”
“I had pain in areas where I didn’t really have a reason to have the pain. I would get shooting pain in my finger tips and in my hand that I assumed was carpal tunnel.”
“It was a persistent nagging pain that got worse and worse over the years.”
Eldiara then described the visible swelling on her arm, as her tumour began to protrude through her elbow. She also mentioned experiencing numbness and tingling in an unusual area.
Furthermore, she noted a sudden and unexplained weight loss of 10lbs over a short period of one to two months. By sharing her experience, Eldiara hopes to encourage others to be vigilant about their health and seek medical attention if they notice any unusual symptoms.
She recounted: “I had reduced range of motion and reduced things I could do with my hand. I was losing abilities I would have if I didn’t have a massive tumour in my arm.”
Despite the challenges Eldiara has faced, she is determined to use her experience to educate others about the early warning signs that she encountered, hoping it might save lives.
On her GoFundMe page, she shared: “I’m raising money to hopefully undergo two reconstructive surgeries – one that will restore function in my paralyzed hand, and one that will allow me to regain partial sensation in my fingers.”
Responding to her story, a user commented: “My uncle has Ewing Sarcoma and has been in remission for five years. Sending all the healing!! Your spirit is so genuine and amazing.”
Another individual expressed their concern: “I have no obvious lumps or masses. But I’ve been chronically ill since 2017 and in worse decline since 2021.
“It’s now one year since I’m basically bed bound. my feet and legs tingle with pain, so do my arms.”
A third person revealed: “I’ve experienced medical malpractice in more than one field and am terrified to seek medical help- especially with any kind of radiation.”
