A woman has gone viral on social media after sharing the ‘awful’ experience she had at one of her friend’s bachelorette parties, following a stay in a bed that wasn’t her own
A woman has urged people to be vigilant when staying away from home to ensure they don’t go through what she did.
TikToker @saramics.pottery posted a video with the caption: “0/10 would not recommend hopefully this information saves someone from this misery”. She explained that despite checking into a “very nice” and “very clean,” place, she always checks for bed bugs wherever she goes.
According to the NHS, bed bugs are “small insects that often live on furniture or bedding. Their bites can be itchy but do not usually cause other health problems.”
She said she thoroughly checked her room and found no signs of the pests, so she went to sleep peacefully. However, she woke up the next morning with a couple of bug bites on her arm, which she initially assumed were mosquito bites from sitting outside the previous day.
As the day progressed, she noticed more bites appearing but mistakenly believed that bed bug bites would show up immediately after being bitten. In reality, a bite may not become visible “for up to 14 days,” leading her to attribute the bites to daytime mosquitoes wrongly.
Unaware of the true cause, she slept in the same bed again and checked out the following day. The bites she had were “in clusters and in lines,” leaving her skin in a “mess”.
In a horrifying revelation, a woman has recounted her nightmarish encounter with bed bugs after returning to their stay point and conducting another check of the room.
Despite initial appearances suggesting everything was “clear”, one of her friends emerged “white as a sheet,” revealing the discovery of bed bugs hidden in the crevices of her cloth headboard.
Left mortified, she fled to a mate’s place where she had to “strip” and head to the guest bathroom. Embarking on an intense regimen, she took “five scalding hot showers” and subjected all her possessions to the hottest possible washes, followed by drying, then another round of washing and drying.
The ordeal intensified when, five days later, her bites swelled to “the size of golf balls,” leading to abnormal breathing and excruciating itching.
Resorting to allergy tablets provided some respite for her erratic breathing, enabling her to “sleep through the pain” for two days while utilising heat from hot cloths and ice packs for swelling to tackle the itch.
Although she didn’t know how long it would take for the welts to dissipate, she expressed relief that she was the only one affected in her group. Sympathetic and concerned individuals voiced their experiences in the comments section, with one person sharing, “Girl, I’ve had bedbugs, and I’m not exaggerating. It was one of the most awful things I’ve ever experienced.”
Another advised a proactive approach, mentioning they “always spray for bed bugs just in case” when they’re away from home.
If you have a severe reaction to an insect bite, it’s crucial to consult with a doctor. You can reach out to your GP or NHS 111. In case of an emergency, dial 999.
