A lucky woman hit the jackpot when she discovered a small fortune hidden inside a £6 bag she’d picked up from a charity shop. The woman, who had simply bought the burgundy bag because she liked its design and thought it would complement her wardrobe, was in for a surprise when she examined it at home.

She revealed on Reddit: “I found money in my thrifted purse! Never in my wildest dreams would I have seen this coming. I pay $8 (£6) for the bag and found $118 (£87). The most exciting thrift day ever! that doesn’t even include the clothes I found.

“It’s crazy that some people just donate things without checking!

“This purse had so much stuff inside and felt hefty from all the coins.”

Her post sparked a flurry of comments from other users, with one saying: “Wow! I’m never that lucky.”

Another user chimed in: “Wow! Even better than the bag – that must have been so exciting.”

While another shared their own experience: “I found $5 (£4) in a hunting jacket and used it to buy the jacket.”

One more added: “I work next to an antique store. A customer found $800 (£595) in a book and turned it over to the owner who split it with them.”

Another user said: “That is so cool! Put it away for something special! When I find money on the ground, a $20 (£15) here and a $10 (£7.50) there, I save it. I never spend it and I am up to around $200 (£150)!”

A final user added: “I found a 24k gold chain in a preloved bag once. Felt like a nice bonus.”

However, she’s not the only person to have discovered treasure in a charity shop, as another bargain hunter revealed how she stumbled upon a touching note tucked inside a donated Gucci handbag.

Posting her discovery on Reddit, she disclosed: “Yesterday I uploaded a Gucci bag found at a thrift store, this note was left inside it. Also discovered the bag is from 1973.”

Hidden within the vintage accessory was a handwritten message from a woman called Shelia, who had just retired.

She continued: “I don’t live in an area where people would typical donate Gucci bags. They honestly probably didn’t even notice.”
