Nicole Murphy has shared her simple two-ingredient hack to clean the oven and people have been left amazed by how well it works – leaving the it sparkling afterwards
Cleaning the oven is arguably one of the most challenging tasks in the kitchen.
Dealing with burnt-on food, splatters and stains to restore your oven to its sparkling best can be both exhausting and time-consuming. But not anymore. A woman named Nicole Murphy has gone viral after revealing her brilliant hack for deep cleaning even the dirtiest ovens, using just two key items.
The 34-year-old from Ireland devised a method to clean her oven using dishwasher tablets – and the results were amazing. Alongside placing one in the oven, she also cut a hole in a sponge, where the tablet dissolved as she scrubbed. Sharing a video demonstrating her technique on TikTok (@nicolepaigelilly), Nicole quickly racked up over 10,000 views from impressed followers.
“This is very effective and low cost compared to specific oven cleaning kits or professional oven cleaning,” Nicole explained. “It removes all thick build-up of dirt. It is essential to remove the oven door glass and wipe it clean afterwards with a towel/paper towel and water to remove any chemical substance. It takes around 30 to 45 minutes the first time, and less than 30 minutes each additional time after.”
In the video, she’s seen popping a dishwasher tablet in the middle of her oven and then taking off the glass door, warning her followers “to be careful because the glass is what’s weighing down the oven door”. Nicole then cut a hole in a sponge, tucked a dishwasher tablet inside it, and scrubbed her oven until it sparkled.
This follows another woman’s revelation of her once-a-year oven cleaning trick. TikTok user Mac, posting as @healthylittlepeach, recently shared her homemade oven cleaner that’s been getting rave reviews online. In her video, which has reached her 354,000 followers, Mac confessed: “I’m not going to lie to you all. I’m definitely the type of girl who cleans her oven once a year but when I clean it I’ve got to clean it.”
She then divulged her concoction’s recipe, which shuns harsh chemicals. The wonder mixture is simply half a cup of washing up liquid, one and a half cups of baking soda, and three quarters of a cup of white vinegar. Mixed together, these ingredients form a white paste that does miracles on grimy oven racks.
