Worksop: Video shows damage to property after ‘explosion’

Police have been called to the site of an “explosion” at a property in Worksop, Nottinghamshire. On social media, Nottinghamshire Police said it was at the scene of an “emergency incident” and urged people to avoid the area around John Street.

Residents reported seeing “smoke” over Worksop and hearing a “loud explosion” at around 8pm. “Anyone else just hear/see that loud explosion and smoke over Worksop?” one person wrote on Facebook. John Street is reportedly closed.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said it was dealing with two “significant” incidents and that it had a “number of appliances at an incident on John Street, Worksop. The service confirmed the incident was a gas explosion and that engines from the Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service were also in attendance.

Unverified images show the street covered in debris and a severely damaged house. An incident of this nature has not been confirmed by police. One video shows a blue of grey-black smoke rising from the ruins of a house.

One person commented saying they house “shook”, while another said they were “freaked out”. Another persons said: “It shook the whole house i thought someone had drove into to my front room.”

On Facebook, a local wrote: “I was driving back from Mass this evening, just turned into Gladstone Street from Gateford Road, when there was a terrific bang, like a very loud firework! I thought the back end had blown off my car.”
