If you’re looking for a peaceful escape where you can avoid the crowds, then you may want to consider this one country that has been named the world’s most peaceful

While Europe is just a stone’s throw away from the UK and boasts an array of stunning destinations, it can often be swamped with tourists, leading to over-tourism in many countries. This means that if you’re after a tranquil, serene holiday, you might need to venture further afield.

According to the Global Relaxation Index by BookRetreats, which analysed 76 global destinations to determine the most peaceful retreats, one country emerged victorious. Australia clinched the top spot with a crowd density of merely 3.4 people per km squared.

In comparison to Italy’s 198.3 and Mauritius’ 626, Australia is evidently a more peaceful option. This expansive country offers a plethora of attractions for tourists, ranging from breath-taking beaches to alien-like deserts and vibrant cities.

Being located in the southern hemisphere, Australia is currently basking in summer while the UK is bracing the cold. Australia also ranks high for nature lovers.

Over a third of the country is covered by protected spaces, including 704 national parks – the highest number in the study. From the ancient Daintree Rainforest to the red deserts of Uluru and the crystal-clear waters of the Great Barrier Reef, Australia is teeming with natural beauty, reports the Express.

The Great Barrier Reef, one of the world’s official seven natural wonders, allows visitors to float in pristine warm seas over beautiful coral gardens.

If it’s beaches you’re after, Australia is home to some of the world’s finest. The breathtaking Whitsunday Islands are where you’ll find Whitehaven Beach – one of the most stunning stretches of sand in the country.

Its pristine white sands and crystal-clear waters earned it the title of ‘world’s best beach’ by Lonely Planet.

The beach’s sand is 98% silica, making it whiter and softer than most worldwide. Plus, with seven kilometres of sand, there’s plenty of room for your beach towel.

Australia offers a peaceful retreat without the tourist crowds. However, being on the other side of the globe means flights can be costly.

Skyscanner currently lists return flights from the UK to Perth at £984.
