Wrexham forward Paul Mullin has fired the club to back-to-back promotions, and as the Red Dragons prepare for the Championship next season, he has set his sights on the Premier League

Wrexham star striker Paul Mullin says he hopes to represent the club in the Premier League following the conclusion of the 2023/24 season.

Earlier this month, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney ’s club secured back-to-back promotions following a dominant 6-0 win over Forest Green Rovers. The result was never in doubt at the Racecourse Ground as striker Mullin netted twice in the crushing victory to continue the Red Dragons’ fairytale.

Wrexham ‘s latest promotion will be the second consecutively after they returned to the Football League after a 15-year absence in 2023. Another step up the football league ladder sees the club move to within two promotions of the Premier League.

Mullin, who scored 38 league goals as Wrexham were promoted to League Two last season, has become the on-field face of Reynolds and McElhenney’s project. The 29-year-old was again the team’s leading scorer this season, and he is enjoying life with Wrexham.

In fact, Mullin hopes to continue to guide the club for the foreseeable future. He believes his long-term future is at Wrexham, with Mullin hoping Reynolds and McElhenney can ultimately take the Red Dragons to the Premier League.

“I’m here for the next two years,” Mullin told the Guardian. “The fans love me, I love them and everything about the club.

“If another club made an offer and Wrexham accepted it, then I’m in a position where they’re telling me to go. It’s not something I’m looking for or would wish to happen. It’s quite the opposite. I’d love to play in the Premier League for Wrexham. That’s the pipe dream.

“It’s also the owners’ dream to one day become a Premier League club. Who knows whether that takes 10 or 20 years? 50 years or five years? Ryan and Rob are really ambitious and phenomenally successful in all they do. In football they don’t want it to be any different. They want to keep going and get us promoted again.”

Mullin’s existing contract runs until 2026, which means it is feasible he could even lead Wrexham to the Premier League in his final season. Although such production would likely lead to an extension.

Mullin has scored 24 goals in 37 league games this season – the second-highest total in the league. Wrexham defeated League Two champions Stockport County in their final game of the season, with Ollie Palmer and Andy Cannon scoring to overturn an early deficit.

Wrexham are set to travel on their second preseason tour of the United States and Canada in July. The club’s opponents are unconfirmed at this stage, although the Red Dragons faced the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea last summer.
