Emma Chawner’s legendary horrific X-Factor audition

One of The X Factor’s most unforgettable contestants, Emma Chawner, has proudly flaunted her 16 stone weight loss, a dramatic change since her memorable audition 17 years ago. At just 17, Emma made headlines when she and her family famously clashed with judges Simon Cowell, Dannii Minogue, Sharon Osbourne, and Louis Walsh after facing rejection on the show in 2007, reports OK!

Fast forward to today, the now-35 year old has transformed herself, insisting that her impressive weight loss was achieved without surgical intervention, as she clarified during a chat on ITV’s Lorraine in 2019. Emma recently took to Instagram to share astonishing transformation photos, captioning: “5years down and 16st 4 lost im still losing it but very slow now.” Fans were quick to praise her, saying things like: “Fantastic, you look amazing,” and “You look so beautiful and pretty! Please remember weight can not be defined by age, weight, or gender. Your beauty has always shined through! I’m glad to see you! Bless you love!”

She opened up to Lorraine Kelly, who had once offered assistance to her family in their weight loss efforts, revealing that the catalyst for her journey was the death of her dog and the emotional toll of her parents’ separation. Tragically, Emma’s mother passed away at 73 this January. During her conversation with Lorraine, Emma emphasized her self-motivation: “No one’s pushed me to do it, I’ve done it all myself. I was always out of breath and diabetic.”

She also addressed naysayers who speculated about her undergoing a weight loss surgery and shared her goal to shed a bit more weight, stating: “I’m happy with how I am and it’s not far to go.”

Emma first auditioned for The X Factor in 2007 but was met with harsh rejection. Undeterred, she returned two years later, this time performing alongside her sister Samantha, who recently tied the knot. However, Emma received four no’s from the judges once again, with Cheryl commenting, “Emma, I have to say, you’re definitely more confident when you’ve got your sister with you. But nothing else has really improved unfortunately.”

After her singing aspirations were put on hold, Emma and her family participated in Lorraine Kelly’s Big Fat Challenge, a weight loss initiative. Emma continued to shed pounds after the show, attributing her success to a 30-day detox and adopting healthy habits such as avoiding snacking and drinking plenty of fluids.

Prior to seeking help from a team of weight loss experts on Lorraine’s show, Emma believed her larger size was due to her genetic makeup, stating, “It’s not because of what I’ve eaten. It’s because of the genes in my family. Mum’s big, dad’s big, my sister’s big. No-one’s thin in our house.”
