Andy Cash, 26, from Dublin, Ireland, murdered his sister Lisa Cash, 18, and eight-year-old twins Christy and Chelsea Cawley inside their home during a frenzied attack
A man who murdered his three younger siblings has been jailed for life.
Andy Cash, 26, from the Tallaght area of Dublin, Ireland, stabbed his brother and two sisters to death inside their home in September 2022. He pleaded guilty to the triple murder on Tuesday.
Lisa Cash, 18, and twins Christy and Chelsea Cawley, both eight, all tragically died after suffering “catastrophic” injuries. A post mortem revealed that Lisa endured 71 slash and stab injuries to her face, neck, chest and limbs. Christy sustained 107 sharp force injuries before she was thrown out of a first floor window of the property. Chelsea was knifed and slashed 65 times during the traumatic attack.
At the time, the commissioner of the Irish police service said it was one of the worst incidents he had heard of while senior politicians conveyed their condolences to the family and the community. A death notice posted online said the children were the “beloved and cherished” son and daughters of Margaret and the late Andy Cash and Billy Cawley and the “much-loved” brother and sisters of Margaret and Mikey.
The notice read: “Lisa, Chelsea and Christy will be forever loved and very sadly missed by their heartbroken family, grandparents Martin McDonagh, Martin and Mag, aunts, uncles, cousins, brother-in-law Michael, nephew Baby David, extended family and all their many friends.” The family explained that no jail term would seem appropriate following the horrific incident, reports Irish Times.
In a heartwrenching victim statement, they said: “Our three innocent children were viciously taken from us and that was the day the world stopped turning. What is left is our broken family and every day since has been unbearable. We miss everything about them, hearing their voices, their laughs, the conversations we would have, the games we would play as a family, the hugs and kisses that we won’t ever get from them again.”
They added: “The only thing that hurts more than losing them is knowing how much they have missed out on, how they never got to finish school with their friends or learn how to drive a car or get the chance to see the world. It’s not just what was taken from us that hurts, it’s how their whole lives were taken from them, before they even had a chance to live them.
“Lisa, Christy and Chelsea deserved so much more from life, they deserved to grow old and live their lives however they would have chosen to and to have families of their own. They were the most beautiful, kind, and loving children in the world. We will cherish every memory made with them and love and miss them forever.” In Ireland, murder carries a mandatory life sentence.
